Departmental Overview

The Centers for Educational Equity and Excellence (CE3), a cluster of over 10 equity student support programs in the Division of Equity and Inclusion, provide complex and multi-format programs and services to historically marginalized student populations to ensure their successful transition into the university, academic retention/success, degree completion, and pursuit of graduate study and professional careers. These services have a critical impact on the campus' ability to fulfill its mission of equity, access, and inclusion to California's diverse student population. CE3 services and expertise include solution-focused academic counseling and intervention, assessment of academic needs and addressing academic and nonacademic complexities/barriers to academic success; developing individual study plans; creating and fostering academic, social, and professional support networks and communities; credit bearing transition and success courses; academic strategy and enrichment workshops; enhancing academic skills (e.g., research skills, preparation for graduate programs, academic/work life balance); academic and summer internships; service learning internships; student group development; academic achievement awards; scholarships and student scholar programs; student grant and emergency loan programs; outreach, recruitment, and campus yield activities; and community-building events.

Responsibilities

Visual Media Content Strategy, Development, and Production Planning. (45%)
  • Coordinates design, development, and production of visual media including video, slideshows, photography, and graphic design needs.
  • Researches and analyzes new and innovative methods for promoting our programs and develops implementation proposals; evaluates efforts for effectiveness, reporting results to appropriate higher levels of administration. Supports the design, production and distribution of publications and other promotional materials, including internet or web materials, press releases, advertisements, catalogs, brochures, flyers, signage, A / V presentations, displays, exhibits, etc.
  • Assists with website graphic design and other visual media needs.
  • Coordinates appropriate use of campus, institute, and/or department logos, marks, etc.

Social Media Content Strategy, Curation, and Development. (30%)
  • Under general supervision, builds and manages social media profiles and presence, including Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube, Instagram, WeChat and potentially additional channels (Snapchat, Vine, etc.).
  • Advises and consults with cluster and campus partners regarding all aspects of communications including developing strong communications strategies that effectively deliver the desired message, policy interpretation, and problem resolution.
  • Works alongside content producers and to develop and distribute content that promotes CE3 services, programs, events, and the overall brand.
  • Engages in activities (including surveys and focus groups) that help assess the impact of social media efforts and an advanced understanding of the audience (including students and other stakeholders.
  • Works with listservs and various email marketing audiences to support outreach and recruitment.

Event Promotion & Staffing - Manages event promotion, social media coverage, and registration. (15%)
  • Coordinates activities including events and promotional materials and products designed to promote awareness of the campus, institute, and/or department
  • Prepares communications materials including printing and production timelines, flyers and digital assets, name tags and signage.
  • Provides social media coverage to bring awareness to the event.
  • Independently staffed events which may include career chats, workshops, student coffee hours, and team meetings.
  • Day of event staffing, including occasional evenings and weekends.
  • Operational and administrative support, and other duties as assigned/needed.

Professional Development. (5%)
  • Adds to existing visual and social media skill set through participation in staff organizations, professional organizations, workshops, conferences, training, and other educational or networking opportunities.

Other duties as assigned (5%)

Required Qualifications
  • Thorough analytical and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge and understanding of technical applications and methods to develop, design, and produce various types of visual media including video, slideshows, photography, and graphic design.
  • Thorough knowledge of communication principles, media, and marketing techniques.
  • 1-3 years marketing, visual content and/or social media experience, with a solid understanding of engaging an audience and growing the user base of a product or brand.
  • Strong interpersonal communication and political acumen skills.
  • Strong project management skills.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Thorough knowledge of UC Berkeley, including its achievements, mission, vision, goals, objectives and infrastructure.
  • Experience leading social media content development, curation and strategy across multiple platforms.
  • Strong skills in event and media activities management.
  • Skill in mentoring less experienced staff. Preferred Proficient in Adobe Creative Cloud Suite including Premiere, Photoshop, Lightroom, and Illustrator.
  • Experience using social media tools like Later, Slack, and Canva.
