Reports to: Director of Digital Marketing

In this position, you'll be part of the Marketing and Communications team in the Office of University Development (OUD).The Assistant Director reports to the Director of Digital Marketing, and is our functional lead for the tactics that enact our digital marketing strategy, ranging from email strategy and website management to new technology/channel selection and oversight of our social media campaigns. Join us as we use digital tools to engage and inspire prospective supporters of the University of Michigan!

You'll also work with the Director of Digital Marketing and a group of dedicated fundraisers and technical experts to create a brand-new Donor Digital Experience for our donors moving into the next campaign.

Email management and strategic improvement (25%)

  • Build outgoing email solicitation and communications, attach data, QA and send

  • Identify A/B testing opportunities and strategy and measure results

  • Help create email best practices

  • Work with marketing colleagues to create metrics, measurement and strategies

  • Research and explore improvements to email marketing techniques (e.g. personalization/campaigns/journeys, better segmentation, follow-on communications and multi-channel integration)

Website management and strategic improvement (25%)

  • Coordinate updates of content on OUD's websites in collaboration with MarCom colleagues

  • Suggest and maintain best practices for updates on those sites

  • Suggest and coordinate metrics on our sites in collaboration with colleagues

  • Lead Search Engine Optimization and search marketing

Collaboration and leadership (25%)

  • Assist the Director of Digital Marketing as a liaison to other OUD technical teams

  • Manage our Social Media Strategist and other, future employees

  • Work with the DDM to identity opportunities to enhance our current digital efforts

  • Lead the Social Media Specialist in conceiving and setting an integrated paid and earned social media marketing strategy

  • Participate in team-level, department-level, and organizational meetings

New technology exploration and testing (25%)

  • Explore and propose new technologies and tactics that could assist OUD in its digital marketing efforts, in collaboration with colleagues and OUD technical teams

  • Create tests, help select vendors, and report out on results, offering suggestions for selection and implementation

  • Coordinate with existing vendors for MarCom digital marketing efforts (including all digital channels and advertising) and work with the Director of Digital Marketing to help build RFPs for new ones

  • Conduct research, networking and learning to improve U-M's digital marketing subject-matter expertise

  • Publish / cascade those findings to other team members

Your responsibilities may change as the digital landscape changes

  • At least three years professional experience in marketing or communications

  • At least two years professional experience in digital fundraising, email marketing, or e-commerce

  • At least one year in a managerial capacity

  • An in-depth understanding of website creation/management, digital marketing strategies, and social media management

  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications or related field

  • At least one year of experience working in a collaborative environment with shared project ownership

  • Familiarity with WordPress and email marketing software

  • At least one year of experience volunteering or working with a philanthropic organization

  • Passion for the University of Michigan
