About the Center:

The Law & Economics Center (LEC) of the George Mason University Antonin Scalia Law School is a national center for research and education that focuses on the timely and relevant economic analysis of legal and public policy issues. To fulfill its education mission, the LEC provides dynamic training programs in law and economics to audiences including federal and state judges, state attorneys general, congressional staff members, academics, and other legal professionals.

Responsibilities:

The Associate Director of Strategic Communication & Marketing is responsible for overseeing all communication and marketing facets, both internally and externally. This role will contribute to communication and marketing objectives through the development of strategic PR plans, project management and execution, earned media strategy and engagement, and agency management. The ideal candidate will plan and effectively execute multiple projects through an ever-changing environment. This person has a keen sense for meeting both Center objectives and those of internal and external stakeholders. This candidate will work collaboratively across all LEC divisions and leadership (Executive Director, Deputy Executive Director, and Chief of Staff) and duties include articulating and promoting the mission, vision, and identity of the Law & Economics Center, developing and implementing the long- and short-term marketing strategies, assisting with various events, and utilizing marketing and public relations to advance the LEC's mission.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree, preferably with focus on Communication/Journalism/PR/Marketing, or equivalent combination of education and experience, with significant applicable experience (10+ years desired) preferably in political or the public policy arena;
  • Outstanding media relations skills including strategic planning and the ability to pitch to top-tier reporters, strong understanding of social media (including new and emerging channels and analytics);
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills – including presentations and media materials – and an ability to develop materials under tight timelines;
  • Creative instinct, enjoys brainstorming process and coming up with new and innovative ideas;
  • Proven track record of driving successful, insight-based, creative communications programs that delivered organizational objectives, on time and within budget;
  • Excellent organizational and management skills, including the ability to juggle multiple tasks and priorities effectively;
  • Highly self-motivated;
  • Detail-oriented;
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast paced, quality and goal driven work environment;
  • Team-focused, enjoys working as part of an active group of highly engaged individuals, sharing information readily with co-workers, and listening to and respecting others;
  • Willingness to participate in occasional weekend and evening programs and social events. Some out-of-town travel will also be required.
