Assistant Director of Events and Marketing, Business for Impact - McDonough School of Business - Georgetown University

The mission of Business for Impact (BFI) - an initiative within Georgetown's McDonough School of Business - is to unleash the power of business to help people and the planet thrive. BFI delivers world-class Education, purposeful Student Work, and Corporate and Community Impact with companies, nonprofits, and government leaders to help solve the world's most pressing issues. Guided by the belief that companies succeed by balancing the needs of all stakeholders - communities, customers, employees, suppliers, shareholders, and the planet - BFI educates and works with students and executives to manage the triple bottom line - people, planet, and profit.

The Assistant Director for Events and Marketing plans, oversees, and executes, high-volume, on-going, private and public events and functions for BFI, including monthly student centered lunches and career/networking events, several 1-day project-based conferences, and various individual speaker events; as well as a large-scale 4-day executive education forum 6x per year, and a large-scale 2-day executive leadership education forum 5x per year. They plan and manage the logistics, arrangements, correspondence, and advertising relating to all BFI events; as well as the BFI communications and marketing strategy, pitching stories to media and engaging our audiences through our website and social media. Reporting to the BFI Executive Director, the Assistant Director of Events and Marketing has duties that include but are not limited to:

Event Planning and Execution
  • Work with the Associate Director and stakeholders to develop program content and schedule of events
  • Negotiate contracts with vendors and ensure timely submission and approval of contracts
  • Determine and reserve appropriate venue location, catering, and media coverage
  • Generate event invitations, microsites (when appropriate), and associated correspondence
  • Coordinate schedules of involved parties, and conduct background research on speakers
  • Manage setup and breakdown of venues
  • Manage all BFI virtual events and fora: online registration creation, registration management, zoom link creation, event session prerecording, virtual event troubleshooting, etc.
  • Manage New Strategies monthly webinar series
  • Coordinate with MSB's Events team on protocol and security
  • Make all arrangements for public speakers and groups, including making logistical arrangements for domestic and international travel and hotel accommodations
  • Follow up with payments, resolving any issues that may arise, and reconciling all events-associated financial transactions with the Assistant Director
  • Act as main POC for VIP guests and attendees for BFI events
  • Ensure all event guests are cared for and satisfied with their experience participating in an MSB/BFI event


Marketing and Communications
  • Create, refine, and execute the BFI communications strategy and plan
  • Arrange for audio-visual recording, edit recordings for events, and upload all events to the GSEI website and social media sites
  • Work with BFI media consultant and MSB MarComms team to pitch relevant stories to media outlets; and handle incoming inquiries and then match with appropriate BFI or other University faculty experts
  • Monitor media appearances of BFI faculty/staff and proactively promote them via social media platforms
  • Work with Associate Director to write content for BFI newsletter, website, and other materials as needed
  • Monitor and maintain BFI website, Facebook, and LinkedIn sites.
  • Monitor and maintain New Strategies LinkedIn site
  • Perform write-ups for events
  • Maintain communications and social media standards guide book
  • Edit written work from the management team
  • Manage New Strategies monthly webinar series
  • Oversee ADA compliance management for all center collateral


Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in event management, marketing, communications or related field OR equivalent work experience
  • Proven track record of planning large scale events - both in-person and virtually - with multiple stakeholders
  • Mastery of social media platforms and website content management systems (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, WordPress, etc.)
  • Proficiency in Google Suite and MS Office Suite
  • Working knowledge of Salesforce and Mailchimp
  • Ability to curate and develop content including original messaging, graphics, and other visual tactics (using Canva, Adobe Creative Cloud and/or other similar tools)
  • Ability to operate basic video editing programs
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills
  • Ability to write a press release, create website copy, produce a write-up of an event, etc.
  • High-level of attention to detail
  • Strong time management and organizational and planning skills with the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work well independently and in a team and to prioritize projects and assignments


Preferred qualifications
  • Master's degree
  • Passion for social impact, shared value, and corporate social responsibility
