The new career center will reside in the Division of Student Affairs, a collaborative team of over 300 professionals who work together to coach, mentor, advise, and assist all students to achieve their full potential. The Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs, Dr. Anna Gonzalez, is known for her prior work transforming career centers, including the top-ranked career center at Harvey Mudd College. The Divisionâ™s five major priorities include: career development; healthy excellence; sense of belonging; leadership; and justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion.
Reporting to and with the support of the Associate Vice Chancellor of Career Development and Education, the Marketing and Communications Specialist will have the following goals: (1) develop new brand and marketing strategies that align with career centerâ™s priorities; (2) build the marketing and communications internal infrastructure, processes, and procedures to ensure timely content production and delivery; (3) provide direct communications support to the Associate Vice Chancellor; (4) develop and supervise the student marketing and communications team; and (5) develop a unit-level strategic plan in support of the career centerâ™s goals and regularly assess and report on progress. The Marketing and Communications Specialist will work closely with the Division of Student Affairsâ™ Marketing and Communications team, which will provide a number of communications and design resources, as well as coordinate with University Advancement. The Specialist will also serve on the leadership team that will support the transition to a unified career center.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
Develop and maintain Career Centerâ™s brand identity staying within the Division of Student Affairsâ™ brand guidelines. Implement brand strategy across communications channels, physical spaces, and services. Set overall direction, priorities, and objectives for marketing and communications efforts for the Career Center. Ensure the needs of the Career Centerâ™s units are met and the primary constituent groups (undergraduate and graduate students, alumni, parents, campus partners, and businesses) are being served. Coordinate development and execution of marketing and communications strategies with the Division of Student Affairsâ™ Marketing and Communications Team.
Create and deliver content for a variety of different purposes. Create tailored messaging, contribute content to website, newsletters, social media, and other sources as appropriate. Contribute to communications packages for specific events and programs. Provide direct communications support to Associate Vice Chancellor for Career Development and Education.
Develop annual marketing and communications goals for the career center. Create assessment plan to track outcomes. Consistently evaluate and refine marketing and communication efforts through data and information analysis, goal evaluation, surveys, and verbal feedback.
Serve on Career Center leadership team.
Perform other duties, as assigned.
Demonstrated experience in strategic communications and brand management.
Experience using data to drive decision-making.
Experience with donor stewardship communications.
Experience in non-profits, higher education, community development or similar job sectors.
Ability to work independently and as a member of a team, establish priorities, and work collaboratively as a member of a diverse community.
Ability to assess the needs of students, faculty, and staff and offer appropriate support; experience with and commitment to working with individuals of diverse cultural, racial, ethnic, religious backgrounds, and people of various gender identities and/or sexual orientations.
Experience with CRM database system.
Excellent interpersonal, listening, written, oral communication, and public speaking skills.
Strong consultation skills and ability to work collaboratively with others.
Latitude for independent judgment.
Demonstrated organizational, analytical, planning, problem-solving, and project management skills.
Adept at current technological tools and software as well as learning new skills.
Experience in generating and using market research data to drive plan development.
Bachelorâ™s degree in communications, marketing, journalism, business administration, English, or related field.
Three years of progressive responsibility in related area.
$50,500.00 - $86,200.00 / AnnuallyThe salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
