Position Description
Reporting to the Director of Integrated Marketing Communications, the Communications Specialist is an integral part of the creative process. This position works closely with a talented team to create engaging content that effectively meets marketing objectives, reflects the University’s strategic plan and aligns with the Fontbonne University brand. The Communications Specialist pushes the boundaries of creative excellence, ensuring the highest quality creative output across various mediums, targeting both internal and external audiences.
Through collaborative efforts, this position will ensure that all audiences hear and see Fontbonne University in a clear, compelling, and cohesive voice. The Communications Specialist will provide support to the marketing and communications department in the development and execution of digital and print marketing projects including, but not limited to website content and updates, recruitment email marketing, social media posts, and other content.
Duties & Responsibilities
Write copy for key strategic campaigns and projects, including, but not limited to: Articles, website content, marketing and recruitment emails, social media and other digital and print content.
Partner successfully with key stakeholders across all departments and programs to understanding and translating their needs into compelling and effective creative.
Ensure copy is strategically written to reach specified target audiences, as appropriate, for any and all media, including digital, print and multimedia. Also, ensure all copy is aligned with established marketing strategies and follows all brand guidelines.
Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills and review all work for correct grammar, spelling, punctuation, etc.
Participate actively in brainstorming sessions and help drive creative development efforts to create strong content across all platforms.
Curate content, design and manage internal/external newsletters and events bulletin email.
Support the Marketing Department by updating and maintaining website content in a timely fashion.
Lead and manage marketing communications projects.
Initiate creative new ideas in the form of content development for audiences including recruitment, retention, alumni, donors, and other stakeholders.
All other duties as assigned.
Experience, Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
3 years of work experience with a background in copy writing, content creation or content management. i.e. social media content, digital communications, marketing, or another related field.
Strong project management, copywriting and editing skills. Familiar with APA writing style.
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
Demonstrate creative thinking and the ability to work independently.
Demonstrated success in developing messaging for marketing campaigns.
Excellent personal computer skills and experience with Microsoft Office.
Valid driver’s license required.

Bachelor’s degree in digital marketing, communications, related field, or equivalent education or experience is preferred.

Experience in email marketing management systems, WordPress and CRM software (SLATE)
Experience in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop)
Experience with HTML coding, page development and backend programming.
