THE ROLE
Valley School of Ligonier is an independent day school serving students in grades K-8. We are strongly rooted in our founding mission and core values, which emphasize holistic wellness, wisdom, integrity, and community. We are well known for our robust and balanced academic curriculum and the inclusion of arts and athletics in every child’s daily schedule. The Director of Marketing and Communications oversees and implements all aspects of internal and external marketing and communications in order to increase visibility and advance the school’s mission, reputation, and enrollment in fulfillment of Valley School’s mission-driven priorities. He or she handles the strategic media through which the school informs faculty, staff, parents, the larger community, alumni, and the public about the Valley School experience. Reporting to the Head of School, this person is an integral member of the administrative team and Advancement Office. He or she is responsible for building brand awareness and brand loyalty through powerful storytelling across all platforms. This is a full-time, 12-month position.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Develop, plan, budget, and implement marketing and communications strategies for all school departments
Create copy for print and digital projects to achieve Development and Admissions objectives (annual magazine, admissions materials, email newsletters, digital and print fundraising campaigns, website, social media, print ads, student and faculty profiles, infographics)
Craft/maintain the school’s image through brand-consistent and comprehensive marketing and communications
Track performance of marketing strategies
Collaborate with Head of School, Director of Development, Director of Admissions, Division Heads, and faculty to develop strategic on-brand marketing/fundraising/admissions materials and ensure accuracy, consistency, clarity, and efficacy of messaging
Monitor local media and maintain regional awareness to identify possibilities for media exposure and community partnerships
Leverage school’s value proposition in service of admissions objectives
Plan, style, and direct photo shoots to produce images to be used on digital platforms and print materials
Produce The Wheel, the school’s annual (or biannual) alumni magazine
Manage external resources and agencies including marketing firms, graphic designers, website developers, and photographers
Serve as a an engaged and invested member of school leadership team
Serve on Advancement Committee and Crisis Response Team
Research topics and conduct interviews to develop clear, compelling marketing copy that promotes the school
Manage marketing and communications budget
Deliverables include, but not limited to: alumni magazine, web content, admissions packs, annual fund materials, campaign materials, feature stories, press releases, brochures, graduation mailers, blog articles, event materials, crisis communications, style guides, and newsletters

Proven work experience as a Marketing and/or Communications Director or in a similar role
