About the Office of the Vice President for International Affairs (OVPIA)
The Vice President for International Affairs and the teams of staff in OVPIA's offices are the stewards of international activity across all campuses of Indiana University. We provide strategic leadership and advocacy for all international programs and projects and coordinate the resources necessary to sustain their growth. Our goal is to enable as many students, faculty, and staff as possible to pursue international and intercultural knowledge and experiences and to become engaged global citizens.
Within OVPIA, the Office of Marketing and Communications increases the visibility of IU's global engagement and effectively communicates its value to all the university's constituencies. We develop clear and compelling messaging regarding the scope, impact, and value of IU's global engagement, supporting the university's internal and external communications strategy to promote IU's leadership in global research and education. As the central communications office for OVPIA, we cover university-wide international affairs activities with a focus on curriculum internationalization, international partnerships, institutional development, international alumni, advancement, and the Global Gateway network. OVPIA is also dedicated to promoting and engaging with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, which provides an essential perspective for inherently global issues and is part of a broader, international approach to learning that challenges and empowers students, and creates new skills, values, and attitudes.
Job Summary
The Associate Director of Marketing and Communications is responsible for a range of communications and marketing strategies for OVPIA. They serve as lead designer and will execute a strategic marketing and communications plan to promote the value of IU's global engagement university wide. This position will work independently on progressively more complex assignments, as well as collaboratively as a member of cross-functional project teams.
Department-Specific Responsibilities
Works closely with the directors and staff of OVPIA units as a partner on a variety of communications and marketing initiatives, which includes gathering quality assets, developing engaging content, and delivering it across a variety of channels like email, websites, social media, reports, newsletters, print, calendar listings, and other outlets as appropriate.
Provides leadership in the conceptualization and development of news stories, features, graphic images, videos, and other multi-media content. Designs communication and promotional concepts that deliver high quality consistent messaging with IU brand identity.
Provides high-level analytical assistance and advises on the appropriate marketing mix to promote OVPIA events, activities, initiatives, and other VP priorities.
Hires and supervises media student interns; provides direction, distributes assignments relating to photography, videography, storytelling, and design production. Ensures project expectations and deadlines are met.
General Responsibilities
Independently creates basic and complex communications for print and e-distribution on behalf of department or functional area within department and in support of departmental goals and objectives; communications may be interdepartmental; staff, faculty, or student-focused; or external.
Responds to inquiries and requests and explains policies, procedures, and context of communications.
Manages relationships with various internal and external stakeholders and creates communications coverage for relevant initiatives, events, and programs.
Prepares communications timelines and shares progress of communications toward relevant deadlines with manager, team members, and other relevant constituents.
Regularly monitors relevant social media and news sites; researches relevant subject matter to increase knowledge in area(s) of specialty.
Utilizes various communications software programs and delivers communications in multiple formats to a variety of audiences.
Qualifications
EDUCATION
Required
Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, English, public relations, or related field

Working Conditions / Demands
This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
Work Location
This position is eligible to work a hybrid schedule (mix between remote or in-person work). Occasional local travel will be required for special events. All remote work arrangements are subject to change based on university policy and business needs.
