Position Summary
The Brown School seeks a communications coordinator to write, design and disseminate print and edit digital communications on behalf of the Brown School. The coordinator will support communications, assist in managing project activities, write communications about project work, and provide administrative and logistical support for faculty leading national organizations, such as the Academy of Social Work and Social Welfare (AASWSW) and the Society for Social Work Research (SSWR). Additionally, this position will oversee the production, promotion, and implementation of in-person and virtual events such as trainings, professional development workshops, panel discussions, symposiums, and conferences.
Job Description
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
Marketing Communications
- Contributes to the development and implementation of marketing and communications plans to reach various stakeholders.
- Builds emails and mailing distribution lists and supports maintenance of the CRM system.
- Proofreads materials and checks adherence to brand standards prior to production.
- Meets with faculty, staff, students and other stakeholders to better understand and develop communications on research projects, policy initiatives, and other programs.Â
- Updates and maintains organizational websites, social media, and events calendar.
Production and Distribution
- Collaborates with administrative and faculty leadership on the development of programming, communications and event marketing materials, including email communications.
- Writes and proofreads web and print content to ensure accuracy and adherence Washington University brand standards (AP Style); coordinate updates with director of professional development and at times with the communications director.
- Develops, posts, and monitors content on external websites and social media, including tracking analytics.
Events and Internal Communications
- Coordinates materials, marketing, and onsite logistics for professional development programming and events.
- Manages compliance of internal communications, such as posters and flyers.
- Oversees content for digital ads and other on-campus promotional opportunities.
General Administration
- Coordinates committee schedules; take minutes at committee meetings; support committee chairs of national organizations as needed.
- Processes reimbursement for expenses.
- Participates in regular departmental, institute, and school meetings.
- Other activities as assigned.
Working Conditions
- Currently, this position is performed partly in-office and with the option to work partly from home.
- A laptop will be provided.
- Work will eventually be performed primarily in the offices at the Brown School; candidates should be prepared to return to fully in-person work.
- At the office, standard office equipment will be used including computers, printers, and other technology related to presentations and meetings.
- This position requires the ability to sit or stand for long periods and the ability to travel to on- and off-campus locations for meetings.
- On occasion, the position responsibilities may require working outside normal business hours (i.e. before 8:30 AM and after 5 PM) and on weekends.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelorâ™s degree in communications, social work, public health, or education related field.
- Three years of communication, print production or marketing experience, with at least one year in a higher education setting.
- Ability to understand the substance and implications of a broad range of social policy and public health research and engage in conversation on those topics.
- Knowledge of Sharepoint or other similar tools to maintain web content.
- Experience with email marketing products and customer relationship management software.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and Adobe Creative Suite, including Photoshop and InDesign.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to foster productive working relationships with diverse constituencies.
- Excellent writing and editing skills; experience with copywriting, digital and print promotion, and production of social media campaign content; knowledge of AP style.
- Creativity in outlook and approach to communications, marketing and event logistics.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Ability to work and thrive in a team environment, as well as independently. Ability to remain positive, professional and effective in a high-pressure, fast-paced environment.
Required Qualifications
Bachelorâ™s degree and one year of experience or high school diploma or equivalent high school certification and four years of experience.

Salary Range
$19.56 - $30.35 / Hourly
The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
