Colleges, Housing and Educational Services (CHES) is a multi-funded organization within the Business and Administrative Services (BAS) division at the University of California (UC) Santa Cruz. CHES provides leadership in the areas of college student life and residential services, housing services, facilities, employee housing and capital planning, dining services, conference services, early education services, the Bay Tree Campus Store, ID card services, and business and financial analysis for these areas. Student Housing Services (SHS), a subunit of CHES, includes a Marketing and Communications team, which develops comprehensive marketing, communications and PR strategies on behalf of CHES departments, programs and services.
Under the general supervision of the Marketing and Communications Manager, the Marketing Copywriter serves as a member of the Marketing and Communications team. The incumbent is responsible for various types of written content including brochures, posters, emails, articles, storyboards and web content. The incumbent will produce content that conveys information in engaging and insightful ways via print and digital communication. The Marketing Copywriter will work with clients and management to develop and execute organizational communication and marketing strategies as well as plans and implements information campaigns.

Conceptualize and create original content for marketing and communication campaigns, programs, and projects.
Develop, write, and edit content for print and web publications. Organize information to maximize clarity for target audiences and to conform to publication or web site style, editorial policy, and publishing requirements. Monitor web content and update as needed.
Edit and proofread materials in a cost-effective, productive, complete, accurate, and timely manner.
Propose copy concepts and present underlying strategic thinking to management and clients.
Identify purpose, message, audience, and how project aligns within overall marketing strategies.
Maintain brand style standards and ensure consistency between print and digital marketing campaigns and overall marketing strategy.
25% - Email Marketing
Produce, quality check, and deploy high quality email communication campaigns.
Ensure email initiatives are complete, on time, and executed with a high degree of accuracy and effectiveness.
25% - Consultation, Research, and Planning
Consult with clients and the marketing team to assess needs and objectives, and develop strategies to meet those needs through the appropriate use of print and digital marketing and communication.
Advise regarding developing strong communications strategies that effectively deliver the desired message.
Gather research data and testimonials for use in print and digital communications collateral, and other marketing materials.
Develop schedule, track progress, and collaborate with project contributors to ensure milestones and deliverables are aligned and deadlines are met.
10% - Other Duties as Assigned
Perform miscellaneous administrative duties in support of marketing-related and university objectives.
Represent Student Housing Services as a member of campus committees and task forces, as well as professional conferences and workshops.
Assume additional projects and responsibilities in response to emerging issues.
Bachelor's degree in a related area such as advertising, communications, marketing, English, or equivalent experience.
Demonstrated professional experience in copywriting and content creation.
Proven understanding of writing mechanics including English language usage and correct use of grammar with the ability to prepare, proofread, and edit a variety of marketing communication with a high level of accuracy.
Demonstrated computer skills with experience in word processing, HTML coding, spreadsheet, database, page layout, graphic, e-mail, and calendar applications.
Experience in producing workable ideas and concepts, with the ability to formulate creative solutions to new or evolving issues and situations.
Excellent organizational and time management skills; ability to complete assignments accurately and on time with a high attention to detail amidst frequent interruptions and shifting priorities.
Demonstrated interpersonal and active listening skills to interact and communicate clearly and effectively with a wide range of campus personnel and a diverse community including students, faculty, staff, local community members, and other clients.
Knowledge and skills sufficient to consult with management to ensure delivery of the desired message to the target and / or broad general audiences.
Ability to ensure message clarity, and a consistent style and voice throughout all produced content.
