Marketing & Communications Specialist, Cawley Career Education Center - Georgetown University
In the holistic context of the 21st century, Georgetown's Cawley Career Education Center is an organization committed to the Jesuit mission and values of the university - a diverse community dedicated to justice and the common good.
The Marketing & Communications Specialist has responsibility and oversight of the Cawley Career Education Center's (Cawley) communications and publications in print and social media. Reporting to the Director of Cawley and interacts with internal and external stakeholders to communicate and enhance Georgetown's career services and programs and its experiential learning initiatives, the Marketing and Communications Specialist has duties that include but are not limited to:
Marketing and Communications Strategic Planning
Develop and implement a comprehensive marketing strategy to raise awareness of Cawley's brand including mission, vision, values, services, and outcomes
Continually evaluate existing communications materials and advise on changes necessary to advance Cawley's goals
Develop tools and methods to gather information about the effectiveness of Cawley's communications and marketing efforts
Work with the Office of Advancement, Office of Alumni Relations and the University's Office of Communication to develop materials (print, video) to advance philanthropic priorities, alumni involvement, and external stakeholders interest
Provide guidance and oversight of marketing goals and activities for Cawley audiences
Design and create effective marketing materials for the staff to promote awareness of programs and services
Produce videos, flat screen images, and PowerPoint presentations showcasing Cawley's programs, services, and successes
Execute a comprehensive social media strategy to enhance Cawley's presence on Facebook, YouTube, LinkedIn, Twitter, Instagram, podcasts, and blogs
Act in a producer role for all video by shaping the narrative of each piece, mapping production budgets, and ensuring that deadlines are met
Collaborate for dissemination of reports on programs and services, including mid-year and end-of-year reports, school-specific and interactive media presentations of the first destination survey and other surveys for distribution to administrators, deans, faculty, staff, parents, and students
Provide original written content for media requests and press releases about programs, successes, and student career activities for inclusion in the university's website, newsletters, student publications, and external media
Provide supervision to as many as 3 part-time student workers assisting in the implementation of marketing and communications goals
Propose and track budget and expenses related to Cawley communications
Content Development & Publications
Newsletters: 1) Create and distribute a weekly General Newsletter to all students to announce programs, services, employment, internship, and service opportunities; 2) Work with Cawley's Industry Advisors and student workers to create and distribute 5 Industry Newsletters on a weekly or bi-weekly basis; and 3) Work with the Center Director and the Associate Director of Employer Relations to create and distribute an Employer Newsletter and a Parent Newsletter two times per academic year
Develop and maintain standards and templates for handouts and targeted emails to ensure that the format and content of Cawley's messages are consistent
Provide leadership for development and production of departmental print publication - both in-house and with external vendors - such as brochures, signage, event invitation and collateral and student guides
Create and update Career Center guides and publications - such as the program and services guide and recruiting guide
Departmental & University Responsibilities
Work with the Cawley leadership team to produce presentations for internal and external stakeholders
Work with Cawley staff and campus partners to better understand students' career development needs in order to market programs and services to specific student populations (e.g., school; academic year; student group, diversity)
Work with CALL staff, the Red House, and other campus partners in aligning marketing efforts of current and future experiential learning programs within the context of larger university strategic goals.
Participate as needed in Cawley programs, including career fairs, open houses, signature events and university events
Represent Georgetown in local and national professional associations and conferences to stay current with industry standards and to ensure that Cawley initiatives anticipate and respond to student and market changes
Communications & Technology Leadership
Assure that all graphic representations of Cawley are in keeping with the Visual Identity Guidelines for print and multimedia
Assist Cawley staff with website strategy, communications/creative services support, and the evaluation of technology solutions for specialized services
Work with the University Office of Communications to respond in a timely manner to media inquiries and deal with any crisis-related communications
Create or identify source for new applications as necessary, and promote development of common University solutions as appropriate
Bachelor's degree, though Master's degree preferred
Proven track record in building content and communications strategies from early stage to finish.
Proven graphic design with proficiency in specific applications such as InDesign, iWork Pages, Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and other software; familiarity with Mac and Windows operations systems
Experience designing and implementing a social media marketing strategy across email, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc.
Exceptional writing, editing, speaking and interpersonal skills
Strong organizational and time management skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage projects
3+ years of experience in marketing at career services offices or other higher education settings or experience with marketing and/or public relations at for-profit or non-profit organizations
Proficiency with web management
Proficiency with social media analytics platforms such as Hootsuite and Google Analytics
Skilled in videography, photography, and publication design
Writing and editing experience in a professional environment - preference for an academic setting
Strategic, innovative, and able to incorporate data-driven and anecdotal information to develop communications and processes
Ability to pivot based on communication needs of different stakeholders and marketing audiences
Commitment to institution and Cawley's mission
Ability to work well independently and as a member of a team
Ability to adapt in an exciting and changing environment
Ability to develop a rapport with students, employers, alumni and faculty
Ability to speak persuasively to small and large groups
