Position Summary:

At the UCI Health Gavin Herbert Eye Institute, Department of Ophthalmology our faculty are internationally recognized physicians, surgeons and scientists who provide highly specialized training to future ophthalmologists, access to leading-edge clinical trials as well as sight-saving treatments and therapies for virtually any eye disorder. Eye surgeons, stem cell researchers, geneticists, infectious disease specialists and engineers are working on technologies and treatments for macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, corneal disease and cataracts as well as a vaccine to prevent eye and genital herpes infections. These efforts have vaulted UC Irvine School of Medicine into the top echelons of U.S. institutions receiving National Institutes of Health grants for vision research. Our goal is to spark innovation and continue to revolutionize patient care.

This position will support ophthalmology clinical practice by promoting the UCI Health Gavin Herbert Eye Institute brand to prospective patients, referring ophthalmologists and optometrists, as well as other specialties to increase new patient volume and support growth plans. The Director of Business Development and Marketing will research and produce detailed analysis of the ophthalmology field to identify business opportunities and growth-oriented strategic plans. In adddition, the incumbent will also manage and retain relationships with existing referral base, as well as increase our referral base and promote the expertise of faculty at UCI Health Gavin Herbert Eye Institute. The Director will also collaborate with marketing and faculty to stay up to date on new initiatives and services. Specifically, the individual will apply skills and experience as a seasoned business development professional to:
  • Research and produce detailed analysis to identify business opportunities and growth-oriented strategic options.
  • Conduct market analysis to investigate and evaluate health care environment; create reports and presentations to drive decision making.
  • Advise management on new models of care delivery, health care trends, and potential partnerships.
  • Participate on planning teams and committees; meet with internal stakeholders to determine needs and gather planning requests.
  • Develop and maintain dashboards to track new programs, services and ROI.
  • Establish and maintain database of market research, healthcare business news, potential partnerships, and outreach activity.
  • Evaluate, implement and monitor new programs and services.

    Compensation Range:

    $6,316.67 - $9,941.67

    Required:

    Experience building referral relationships on behalf of physician practices

    Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.

    Thorough knowledge of business development concepts, practices and functions including health care research resources. Strong quantitative and analytical skills to perform complex market and financial analysis. Advanced problem solving skills to assess complex issues and develop solutions. Strong interpersonal skills to work collaboratively and effectively with multi-disciplinary, cross-functional teams. Well-developed written and verbal communications skills including an ability to positively interact with executives, providers and staff at all levels. Ability to develop comprehensive reports and presentations. Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office software and database applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access).

    Preferred:

    Master's in business administration or equivalent.
