The position of Director, Marketing & Fan Engagement will play an active role in the development and implementation of marketing, sales and fan engagement strategies for the Duquesne Athletic Department. Under the direction of the Associate Athletic Director, External Relations this position will be responsible for:

1. Overseeing the development and implementation of marketing/attendance initiatives to maximize attendance for assigned Olympic sports

2. Serve as game day producer for men’s basketball

3. In conjunction with the Director, Marketing & Fan Engagement, recruit, train and manage the day-to-day responsibilities of student interns

4. Develop a plan to grow and manage the Junior Dukes Kids Club

5. Serve as liaison to assigned spirit groups

Duties and responsibilities include:

A. Marketing:

1. Develop, direct, coordinate and execute marketing/attendance plans for assigned Olympic sports with clearly defined goals and objectives

- Prepare and coordinate game day promotional activities

- Identify and implement grassroots marketing activities

- Work as a member of the department’s event management team, specifically during men’s basketball coordinating all facets of the game day production

- Write and develop content for use in email marketing, print, digital and social media platforms

2. Assist in the development of new and creative strategies to create an entertaining and energizing game day experience

- Assist in the implementation of department communications calendar and website maintenance

- Critically evaluate all in-game marketing and promotional aspects

- Stay up-to-date on marketing trends and technologies

B. Game Day Atmosphere (all sports):

1. Assist in the coordination of game day logistics including scheduling of national anthem performers, color guard, halftime entertainment, public address announcers, and student workers

2. Assist in the coordination of assigned spirit groups (band, cheer, dance, student groups and mascots)

C. Jr. Dukes Kids Club

1. Grow, promote and manage the Junior Dukes Kids Club

2. Develop communication calendar

3. Work to create opportunities for Jr. Dukes to interact with student athletes

D. Undergraduate Intern Program

1. Manage day-to-day and game day scheduling of undergraduate intern program

2. Manage all internship requests and responsibilities

E. Other

1. Coordinate athletics-related events to increase brand recognition and engagement within the community (Red & Blue Readers, target youth groups, clinics, community relations events, mascot appearances, etc.)

2. Assist in the hosting of all home events and postseason tournaments (Conference Championships and NCAA Tournaments)

3. Other duties as assigned by the Associate Athletic Director, External Relations

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, sports marketing or related field
  • One-two years of progressive marketing, promotions and in-game promotion management in collegiate or professional sports
  • Strong interpersonal, creative and communication skills are essential, including the ability to communicate in writing
  • Excellent organizational, project management, problem-solving and customer service skills
  • Demonstrate strong understanding of marketing plans and strategy
  • Innovative, creative and energetic personality that will recommend and implement new ideas
  • Willingness to work extended hours beyond the typical business day, nights and weekends throughout the academic year
  • Ability to communicate and adhere to University, Atlantic 10 Conference and NCAA policies, procedures, rules and regulations
