Reporting to an Innovation and Licensing Lead in BODFI, the Licensing Manager & Market Strategists are charged with portfolio and relationship management for a specific scientific cluster area within Dana-Farber.  The Licensing Manager and Market Strategists maintain, develop and grow relationships both internally and externally.  To shape and execute on commercial opportunities, a deep understanding and familiarity with their assigned cluster will be needed. The Licensing Manager & Market Strategists will be driven to accelerate the commercial opportunities for his/her cluster and will work closely with the team to coordinate when there are cross-cluster programs and projects.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Manages IP portfolio of medical innovations, including triage of invention disclosures using knowledge of prior art and commercial landscape within assigned cluster and providing nuanced assessment of value proposition for technology development.
  • Develops strategy to enhance commercial impact, economic returns and cost savings of key and emerging DFCI discoveries.
  • Develops close relationships with counterparts in industry to provide insight and access to DFCI’s relevant therapeutic, diagnostic, device, digital, big data, clinical and other portfolio areas.
  • Cultivates productive relationships with PIs, stakeholders to enhance commercialization opportunities
  • Prepares initial draft license, research, and agreements, integrating knowledge of US Patent Law and DFCI policies; understands and can explain rationale for contract language
  • Leads negotiation of more straightforward research and license agreements and will work with senior management on more complex agreements.
  • Generates draft financial terms with supporting valuation methodology
  • Prepares marketing materials for presentation to business development executives in companies targeted for collaboration
  • Creates and delivers presentations to faculty and department leadership within portfolio with management input
  • Effectively manages assigned portfolio to timelines
  • Quickly assimilates new assignments and delivers results
  • With support from IP counsel, provides timely instructions to IP counsel to maintain strong patent protection
  • Employs technology to efficiently manage workflow

Performs other related duties as assigned.

 

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Outstanding oral, written, communication, and analytical skills are required to enable success of technology development projects. Must be able to communicate proactively.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as a member of a team.
  • Strong negotiation skills.
  • Ability to work in a highly matrixed and complex organization with multiple stakeholders.
  • Flexibility with changes in environment and role.
  • Organized, with ability to concurrently manage multiple opportunities and relationships with potentially competing deadlines
  • Proactively seeks and learns about new technology, concepts, people and organizations
  • A Bachelor’s degree in business, law, or science is required; an advanced degree, such as a Master’s or PhD is preferred.
  • 3-5 years of related experience required, preferably in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and/or technology industries.
  • Existing relationships in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and/or technology industries are required.

This is a full time, 40 hour per week position.
