The Scientific Publishing Marketing Manager directs and drives the strategy for all integrated marketing activity related to ASM’s Journals and Press program. Through innovative and results-driven marketing and promotion strategies and campaigns, the manager will help strengthen ASM’s portfolio of leading scientific journals and books. The marketing manager supervises a marketing coordinator, and with their help will work to increase author submissions and readership across all ASM publications. The position reports to the Assistant Director of Marketing and supports the goals of the department and ASM’.
Develop, direct and execute marketing and promotion strategies and campaigns
Manage and coach a marketing coordinator, who support marketing functions related to scientific publishing.
Drive and guide the strategy for all integrated marketing activity required by Society functions related to ASM’s journals and press publishing programs. Ensure effective execution
Serve as key leader in the Marketing Department working with peers, Assistant Director and Directors to ensure excellence and to encourage high morale
Lead cross functional teams to deliver breakthrough integrated campaigns which can include direct marketing, digital marketing, marketing automation, corporate communications, special events, public relations, supporting launches, re-launches, new programs, awareness campaigns, and ongoing business initiatives
Build and maintain integrated campaign dashboards to track response rates, acquisition costs, return on investment, and other measures of Share results with senior management and other key stakeholders to assist in data-driven decision making
Explore innovations and best practices in Implement based on best fit and organizational readiness
Working with key business lines, establish appropriate budgets. Manage budgets creatively and effectively to generate the highest targeted
Leverage business intelligence to improve performance as well as identify and reach new
Work with outside vendors, as needed, to bring special skills to a campaign or to supplement inside staff.
Monitor competitive offers and approaches

Provide guidance support and corrective feedback to marketing Develop a training program to provide necessary skills for completion of successful projects
Delegate responsibilities as Balance and oversight skills by helping support staff accomplish their goals. Develop plan to appropriately identify potential challenges for proper guidance and ensure staff is working at a level appropriate to their position
Evaluate performance and communicate any necessary modifications
3 years:Supervisory and employee development experience
Experience in budget development and management
Understanding of and experience in membership engagement, acquisition and renewal in a scientific organization or professional society
Experience in marketing communications environment with a large scientific/health/medical association
Experience serving as product line and customer advocate
7 years:Mastery of developing and managing dynamic breakthrough marketing campaigns and teams
Experience with a non-profit, preferred
