Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Marketing Specialist for Student Affairs Marketing and Communications (SAMC). This position reports to the Assistant Director of Marketing and Communications within SAMC. The Marketing Specialist assists with coordinating the marketing and communications of multiple departments within the division, including the Office of the Vice Chancellor, New Student Orientation and Family Programs, Dean of Students, Student Legal Services, Compliance and Title IX, Off-Campus Living and Community Partnerships, Student Conduct, and Office of Graduate Student Life, as well as the division's cultural centers, which includes the Asian American Cultural Center, the Center for Latino Arts and Culture, the Center for Social Justice Education and LGBT Communities, and the Paul Robeson Cultural Center.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Assists with all student recruitment initiatives, digital and print media design and development, branding of supported departments and their programs, and the coordination of a consistent message with the Division of Student Affairs and all other departmental and divisional initiatives.
Provides direct graphic design services as needed to help support divisional initiatives.
Represents the division at on and off-campus events, focus on social engagement initiatives that help shape the story of supported departments.
Assists SAMC staff in providing oversight and support for the division’s media, communications, storytelling, and branding initiatives.
Manages SAMC's student media team staff, which includes graphic designers, photographers, videographers, and social media managers.
As needed, acts as a liaison with other divisional marketing to help coordinate communications.
Maintains and enhances departmental websites and utilize various forms of social media, print, and digital tools and concepts to effectively market programs and services.
Supervises and coordinates the marketing efforts of the student staff within SAMC.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree, preferably in visual arts or graphic design, or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
A minimum of two (2) years' experience with graphic design, project management, public relations, or communications, particularly in a web environment.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Understanding of branding and visual identity systems.
Strong communication and writing skills.
Proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud Suite, especially Illustrator and InDesign.
Knowledge of multimedia production tools and multiplatform deliveries, such as photography, graphic design, and video.
Ability to work independently and set priorities that advance institutional mission and visibility and to work effectively with individuals at all levels of university governance and administration.
Strong organization skills and attention to detail, as well as the ability to work well in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment.
Experience in higher education.
High degree of cultural competence.
Experience that demonstrates knowledge and understanding of office administration, organization, archiving systems, and report writing.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office software, especially Word and Excel.
Ability to communicate clearly and explain technical and/or conceptual information to laypersons.
Knowledge in use of DSLR cameras, lenses, and accessories.
Knowledge of video production, including tripod and lighting setup, microphone/audio setup, video capture, editing, and exporting to various platforms.
Experience using a project management system such as Freedcamp, Basecamp, Trello, or Microsoft Planner.
Mac operating system, Windows operating system, Microsoft Office, Photo/Video equipment (DSLR and specialized cameras, tripods, lighting, microphone systems), WordPress and Drupal Content Management Systems, online project management systems, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube; Adobe Creative Cloud Suite (especially Illustrator, InDesign, After Effects and Premiere).
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
Light lifting and carrying of photographic/Video equipment (up to 25 pounds). Time will be divided between working out of the office and on location around the New Brunswick campus for meetings, event coverage, and observation of facility usage and student media consumption trends. Will require working occasional evenings and weekends for divisional initiatives and program coverage.
This position is may be required to work some evenings and weekends in order to attend divisional programs to capture photography and video, implement marketing contests, and document moments of student and staff achievements.
