The Director of Marketing will lead the firm’s marketing/graphics resources. He/she is responsible for managing the overall workload and resources within the marketing department and for the quality of marketing deliverables. Working with the Practice Leaders, the Director of Marketing oversees the process of developing marketing materials to win new work for the firm. In addition, the Director of Marketing will participate in the development and execution of marketing and public relations plans for the firm and each Practice. In this role he/she will partner with the Public Relations Manager, Practice Leaders, and the President to ensure effective delivery of the firm’s overall marketing efforts.
Education: Marketing/Communications or related degree from an accredited university or equivalent demonstrated proficiency.
Experience: Minimum of 7-10 years of progressive experience in marketing in architecture or related design industry. Candidate should have the ability to manage 6-12 people. Have a strong understanding of the architecture industry and profession. The candidate should have excellent writing and communications skills, strong graphic composition skills, and presentation and interview coaching skills
Other Requirements and Responsibilities
Manage marketing staff in the development of winning proposals, interviews and other marketing materials.
Develop / edit proposals and marketing materials as needed.
Develop templates and processes to aid in improved marketing deliverables and increased productivity.
Direct maintenance and improvement activities related to HMC’s databases for project data, resumes, text libraries, and proposal and presentation templates.
Assist the business services department in monitoring/updating the opportunity tracking database. Provide consistent review and data entry with marketing resources and reaching out to lead proponents to obtain latest updates.
Monitor workload of the department and assigns resources for optimal results.
Track metrics for marketing success such as wins, shortlist rates, capture ratios and make recommendations to leadership regarding strategies for improving marketing efforts
Oversee the development of all proposals, collateral material, presentation material and other marketing deliverables
Responsible for working with leadership (Practice Leaders/President/Public Relations Manager) in developing and managing firmwide marketing budgets.
Work with Public Relations Manager and Practice Leaders to implement market-targeted PR strategies.
Track marketing labor and expenses allocated to each practice.
Assist with defining communication and promotion activities and budgets that support each market segment including: brochures, mail program, conferences, design and trade publications, and media and press relations.
Understand architecture and construction industry technical terminology.
Coordinate and communicate with Practices on recommendations for changes or improvements before they are finalized.
Establish productive working relationships, and deals effectively and cooperatively with internal ‘proponents,’ marketing, public relations and graphic design staff.
Collaborate with appropriate staff to meet goals and objectives of marketing activities.
Ensure that coaching, mentoring, and performance-enhancing feedback of assigned team members are provided.

Review and monitor leads tracking and compare to targeted results.
Demonstrate strong writing and presentation skills.
Work to eliminate activities that do not add values.
Hold self accountable for meeting deadlines and supporting department and firm goals.
Collaborate in the establishment of firm-wide or market initiatives, and follow through with their implementation.
Regularly meets with direct reports to discuss performance.
Ensure that marketing material designs support firm's design goals.
