Thorlabs is currently seeking applications from scientists holding a doctorate degree in experimental physics or a closely related field to directly lead the efforts of our NPI Marketing Team, which is responsible for crafting web presentations for 1000+ new products being released to Thorlabs’ ecommerce site annually.
With a customer-centric philosophy at the forefront of all decisions, Thorlabs has spent the last 1.5 decades building an industry-leading online resource for our customers. That resource provides an abundance of information, carefully layered to focus on our customers’ needs. As the leader of our NPI marketing efforts, the successful candidate will need to continue that tradition as new technologies are added to our portfolio, which now numbers over 20,000 items.
Candidates for this role should be highly familiar with a wide range of photonics equipment, be able to see linkages between Thorlabs’ product lines, and be able to make significant recommendations for improvement to our product offerings and web functionality. In addition to extensive laboratory experience, the candidate must have strong writing and presentation skills in English, high attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to work under tight time constraints.
Members of the NPI Team partner with graphic artists to create marketing collateral. Original product content is written based on information from application specialists, product managers, R&D engineers, and key customers as well as personal experience and research. Hence, successful leadership of this team requires strong collaboration with multiple groups within the organization.
Essential Job Functionsinclude the following, but are not limited to:
Ensures web presentations prepared for new product introduction are of high quality, technically accurate, align with the organization’s brand, and meet release deadlines once all information and inventory are available from the releasing business unit/entity.
As the ultimate “gatekeeper” for product releases, ensures all documentation meets organizational standards prior to release
Ensures proper cross selling across the website for all new products
Generates proposals for organizational changes to the website’s visual navigation necessary for new product introduction (NPI), using Google analytics and sales data to guide decision making.
Obtains data from the sales cube as necessary to answer product-specific questions whose answers influence web placement/updates
Ensures keyword usage is appropriate and leads to strong organic ranking
Partners with internal SEO expert to create Google Ad Campaigns
Works with senior management to minimize scrapping costs during new product introduction
Partners with the Web Team and Business Units as necessary to develop/test configurators and address customer-facing issues
Partners with the Marketing and eCommerce Sales Manager, CEO, Technical Marketing Manager, and Web Programming Manager to identify, develop, and test new tools and features that further enhance the shopping experience on Thorlabs’ website
Identifies projects that will enhance the customer’s buying experience, creates proposals, and executes on those that are approved.
Sets annual goals for NPI marketing team members and facilitates successful completion of those goals
Coaches, supports, develops, and mentors individual employees
Oversees implementation of new product presentations tied to acquisitions as appropriate
Conducts market research as necessary to gain a thorough understanding of how new technologies are furthering the advancement of photonics
Partners with senior management on annual budget
Ability to guide teams, clearly and effectively communicating desired outcomes and addressing issues in a timely fashion
Supports Technical Marketing Team projects via feedback from subject matter experts residing on the NPI Marketing Team
Coordinates projects/outcomes with the Technical Marketing Manager as appropriate
Is fully versed on the Technical Marketer role and contributes directly to deliverables as necessary to achieve desired outcomes.
