This position designs and develops high-quality print and digital content to promote and increase use of ORIS products and supports the Office of Research website platform on WordPress. The Communications & Marketing Specialist will support marketing and educational campaigns and ongoing activities that impact researchers and their teams on all three University Campuses, supporting the Office of Research's critical mission to reduce administrative burden for researchers and enable them to focus on research. Projects include but are not limited to website content, marketing brochures, email campaigns, online tutorials and e-learning modules, screencasts, videos, job aids, PowerPoint presentations, newsletter content, style guides and templates. The Communications & Marketing Specialist will manage projects, processes, activities and resources, aiding the Assistant Director for Content Strategy & Business Operations in development and execution of communication strategy and collateral. She or he will serve as one of the website administrators and content editors for the Office of Research website, which houses critical information for the University's world-class researchers and their teams and the general public, and help ensure quality and consistency of this product. The Communications & Marketing Specialist will use website and email user analytics to plan and adjust outreach approach, contribute to communications strategy, and to help in decision-making.The Communications & Marketing Specialist must have an aptitude for using technology and a desire to learn. She or he will grow to have a solid understanding of ORIS software systems and IT services in order to plan and deliver content for various audiences, using a variety of multi-media vehicles. This position must be able to identify and segment current and potential customers of ORIS' product lines in order to effectively market and build adoption, including creating communication and outreach plans that align with ORIS overall product adoption and content strategy goals. This position will independently create, publish and distribute online and print content for system and product documentation and must exercise good judgement when developing and disseminating messages, ensuring sensitivity to a wide range of audiences and a process that results in a high-quality product. Under direction of ORIS's Assistant Director, Content Strategy & Business Operations, he or she will also contribute to content and marketing strategy. This position requires a willingness to learn new software tools, media production skills and content strategy approaches. Experience with WordPress, Adobe Creative Suite, and multimedia production techniques, as well as an understanding of communications strategy, website analytics and other metrics, is beneficial to success in the role. The Communications & Marketing Specialist will provide support and website platform expertise to staff that are crucial to sustaining systems and services that support the Office of Research's mission of enabling the achievement of excellence by the research community. The position represents ORIS at cross-departmental meetings and must be comfortable partnering across research support units and with the research community to provide clear, concise and timely messaging for all audiences. The position will also engage regularly with subject matter experts, user experience designers, business analysts and software developers. RESPONSIBILITIES:CommunicationsWork collaboratively with Product, Program and Project Managers and Project Teams to build and execute communications deliverables for each product or service released by ORIS, in alignment with ORIS' Communications, Product Adoption and Stakeholder Management Strategies.Work with teams to ensure alignment of user research/usability testing engagement activities, project stakeholder communications, product documentation and product communications.Contribute to communications and content strategy execution, creating content and materials to support ORIS's outreach to the UW and greater research community.Participate in product releases, ensuring audiences are informed, communications are delivered upon completion, and success of communications plan is measured.Contribute to website monitoring and communications with stakeholders during any service interruptions.Contribute to technical documentation as needed.Represent ORIS at cross-departmental meetings, as assigned.Work with Assistant Director and Learning Lead to identify opportunities to market and promote ORIS products and services, and build partnerships across UW community, leverage media opportunities where appropriate.Website AdministrationWork with Research Website Product Owner, stakeholders and website team to support the Office of Research website.Serve as a primary WordPress administrator, managing Content Editor accounts and workflows.Serve as integral part of website Agile development team.Maintain website instructional manual (Design Booklet).Report on usage analytics for website.Assist with stakeholder management, as well as user story development and website testing, as needed.Serve as backup to Learning Lead for WordPress Learning Management System administration, publishing and testing.Multimedia Content DevelopmentDevelop online and print content for website and other marketing campaigns to meet ORIS strategic objectives. Work closely with Learning Lead to develop eLearning content for ORIS products, including copy writing and editing, audio recording, creating mockups, screenshots and other graphics, video editing, creating original graphic elements and themes, proofreading and QA.Manage content review processes for deliverables produced.Work with product teams to implement electronic tools that meet ORIS' content strategy needs for analytics, search engine optimization, website platforms and associated plug-ins. Monitor tools and data for success and contribution to product adoption.Contribute to analytics program and building reports in order to make data-driven decisions for content delivery.Other Support Services Team TasksServe as backup for Customer Support as needed.Serve as backup trainer for in-class trainings as needed.Other duties as assigned. REQUIREMENTS:Bachelor's degree in marketing, design, communications, English, content strategy or related field.2-3 years in a similar role with emphasis on communication and digital content production, ideally within an IT services or software development environment.Technical aptitude and willingness to learn new software and skills.Experience marketing products and establishing brand recognition.Comfortable delivering group presentations.Ability to develop communications and digital content tailored to specific audiences.Experience working with technical roles, such as software developers and data analysts.2-3 years' experience with HTML, content management systems, especially WordPress, and SEO best practices.Experience with Adobe Creative Suite, including Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator.Excellent written and verbal communications skills.Strong editing, language, spelling, and grammar skills.Visual design acumen.Ability to work collaboratively across functional teams, projects teams, and with partner units.Potential to lead and influence others.Dedication to team success while working independently on multiple projects.Ability to prioritize and manage time effectively.Excellent attention to detail.Excellent organizational skills.
