Established in 1927, The Penn Fund, Pennâ™s undergraduate annual giving fund, serves as the primary philanthropic vehicle for the Universityâ™s 100,000+ strong community of undergraduate alumni and students. Gifts to The Penn Fund benefit the Universityâ™s highest undergraduate priorities through unrestricted support and individual endowed scholarships.
Furthermore, gifts from undergraduate alumni, students, parents and friends are used to provide support for immediate budgetary needs including financial aid, faculty initiatives, undergraduate research, and student life programs. The Penn Fund solicits over 100,000 undergraduate alumni and 15,000 parents each year.
The Director of Marketing and Donor Participation manages several integrated campaigns made up of direct mail, electronic mail and telemarketing appeals for all Penn Fund constituents, including both reunion and non-reunion undergraduate alumni classes as well as parents of undergraduate students and current students themselves, leveraging volunteers and Pennâ™s student calling program to maximize strategic outcomes.
Reporting to the Executive Director of The Penn Fund, the Director of Marketing and Donor Participation is a senior manager. He or she is primarily responsible for developing and executing The Penn Fundâ™s marketing plan, in partnership with the Executive Director and in coordination with the University development plan, and assisting team members in its implementation and evaluation of its results. He or she oversees the direct appeals program, manages a team of marketing professionals and support staff, and works closely with internal partners, such as the Director of Class Giving and Reunion Programs and the Associate Director of Young Alumni and Student Philanthropy, and external partners, such as the Director of the Parents Program and the Senior Director of Development for School and Center Annual Giving Support, to reach The Penn Fundâ™s annual fundraising and alumni participation goals.
BA/BS and 5 to 7 years of experience in direct marketing and/or fundraising required, or equivalent combination of education and experience, preferably working with annual giving including integrated marketing campaigns. Proven capacity to simultaneously manage multiple complex projects with and without direction. High level of initiative, enthusiasm, flexibility, and effectiveness when working with diverse stakeholders and different functional areas. Demonstrated superior analytical capabilities and outstanding written and oral communication skills. Relative easiness with computer spreadsheet and database tools. Subject matter expert in direct marketing practices and techniques, including testing and segmentation strategies, as well as measurement of results. Experience with long-range planning, financial reporting, and return-on-investment analysis. Previous supervisory experience and ability to hire, develop, manage and motivate team members preferred. Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team. Experience in higher education, non-profit organizations, product marketing, business development, or management consulting a plus. Prior experience working with Adobe Creative Suite and project management platforms desired. Driverâ™s license and occasional evening/weekend hours required.
