Director of Sponsorship and Sales (remote work option)
As the Director of Sponsorship and Sales for the International Society for Infectious Diseases, (ISID), you will lead and implement all sales initiatives, advance our corporate relationships, and help build out our fundraising platform. Reporting directly to the Executive Director, you will be an important part of our senior management team. In addition to your experience with trade show and conference sales, your proven ability to develop relationships will ensure your success at ISID. Although our headquarters is currently in Boston, in this role, you will have the option to work from home, travelling as needed to conferences, trade shows, and meetings.
Infectious diseases are a global concern and ISID supports over 90,000 members from over 155 countries around the world. We will rely on you to establish the strategic direction for our sales functions, develop sales and development plans, and set milestone to achieve goals totaling $500 - 800K in revenue. In reviewing programs, you will identify areas to generate revenue, create an inventory of sponsorship and other salable opportunities, and implement a targeted outreach strategy while ensuring that ISID obligations are successfully met.
In order to drive repeat business and a continuous pipeline of prospects, you will develop long-lasting partnerships with current and prospective clients. Your professional, easygoing style of communication will help you to develop unique packages to meet client needs and mutually beneficial outcomes. Based on guidelines established with the Executive Director, you will determine if potential sponsors complement ISID’s values and mission and you will have the authority to negotiate contracts.
ISID’s mission is to support health professionals, non-government organizations, and governments around the world in their work to prevent, investigate, and manage infectious disease outbreaks when they occur, particularly in countries with limited resources that disproportionately bear the burden of infectious diseases. Epidemics of influenza, Ebola, and cholera impose significant burdens on economies and public health, particularly in regions such as Africa where infectious diseases are still a leading cause of death.
Responsibilities of the Director of Sponsorship and Sales
Identify and create new revenue opportunities within the scope of ISID’s mission, values, and resources.
Establish the strategic direction for sales functions; develop business and sales plans as well as milestone targets and timelines.
Evaluate packages and recommend and implement changes to strategic and tactical approaches as appropriate.
Create annual budgets and quarterly forecasts.
Consistently hit or exceed revenue targets.
Grow our existing client base through extensive prospecting and strategic sales efforts; nurture and cross-sell to existing clients; create a prospect list.
Conduct relevant market research and analysis to identify key trends in advertising and marketing strategies and provide a solution to those strategy needs.
Conduct research to expand traditional sales opportunities and grow sponsorships across the board.
Participate in full cycle sales activities from outreach through execution using all vehicles necessary to initiate and close opportunities, including sales calls and virtual meetings.
Prepare contracts for execution and update and maintain sales information and deliverables.
Manage advertising initiatives on the ISID website and publications including banner advertising.
Manage sponsorship and exhibitor initiatives for ISID events and programs.
Travel as needed to conferences and events.
Solicit and secure exhibit hall sales to corporate partners.
Assist with business development strategies based on research of the current market and competition.
Launch an individual giving program and create a recognition protocol.
Establish the use of a development database for tracking, acknowledgment, and moves management.
Collaborate with the Marketing Communications Director to ensure proper placement of promotional opportunities.
Work with the Membership Director for effective and targeted outreach.
Coordinate with the Finance Director for invoicing, transaction records, and budgeting.
Oversee the Meetings Associate to ensure that all the supporting needs for effective sales outreach are handled.
Collaborate with ISID staff to ensure strategic success and growth.
Qualifications of the Director of Sponsorship and Sales
Bachelor’s degree in related field.
3-8 years of experience in one of the following areas: sponsorship, conference and meeting sales, business development, marketing, advertising, or communications.
Experience with development or fundraising preferred.
Exceptional interpersonal, teambuilding, rapport-building, organization, and collaboration skills.
Hands-on business development experience with a successful track record of non-dues revenue generation.
Ability to communicate in multiple methods to ensure effective outreach to prospects and clients.
Ability to travel approximately 10 – 20 percent of the time to support society activities, such as attending meetings and other events.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
