JOB PURPOSE:


Reporting to the Director of Direct Marketing, works on the development and implementation of marketing activities, enabling programs, services, events and/or products to meet organizational objectives. Drives cross-functional collaboration across the organization. Provides direct supervision to personnel, as well as the management of select outside vendors, to ensure effective operation. Responsibility for staff including the recruitment, management, development, and retention


DIRECT MARKETING is a unit of Stanford University's Office of Development (OOD) and provides critical expertise in the development, execution and evaluation of fundraising appeals deployed to large populations via channels such as mail and e-mail. Team members work in close collaboration with schools and units across campus to help achieve school and unit annual giving revenue goals.


The marketing manager is an expert project manager, with strategic and analytical acumen who is able to lead a team of client managers who manage the direct appeals for the nine annual giving programs across Stanford.


S/he will support client managers on the development and implementation of marketing activities, primarily direct mail and email solicitations, providing insight and direction in both project management and strategic recommendations to drive fundraising success.


S/he will also possess strong data and analytical skills, and the ability to coach others in these skills, in order to ensure that clients are receiving accurate reporting with data-driven recommendations on a regular basis. Will work directly with clients when needed and may take on individual marketing projects across a variety of clients as needed.

CORE DUTIES*:
  • Recommend, manage and execute integrated marketing plans/programs and strategies to meet business objectives, guide staff to provide comprehensive programs for their clients.
  • Develop and manage the communication and brand strategy for individual program(s) incorporating appropriate channels (i.e., web presence, digital and print).
  • Develop and disseminate campaign and fund analysis templates used to inform decisions regarding strategic marketing direction, product segmentation and customer targeting.
  • Help to recommend marketing improvements based on findings.
  • Responsibility for staff including the recruitment, management, development, and retention.
  • Manage program budget, goals, and objectives in alignment with organizational goals.
  • Manage vendors on specific projects.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:


Education & Experience:




Bachelor's degree and 5 years of relevant experience; or a combination of education and relevant experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Previous experience in product, program and/or services marketing.
  • Ability to lead cross-functional teams toward a common goal.
  • Experience with project management and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Experience with market research and data analysis.
  • Understands how to implement effective marketing programs across multiple channels.
  • Creative problem solver with strong critical thinking skills.
  • Strong written and oral communication and presentation skills.
  • Prior experience in planning and managing program budgets.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*:
  • Constantly perform desk-based computer tasks.
  • Frequently stand/walk, sit, use a telephone, grasp lightly/fine manipulation, speaking.
  • Occasionally grasp forcefully, writing by hand.
  • Rarely sort/file paperwork.
