The Institute for Innovation and Implementation at the University of Maryland, School of Social Work (The Institute) has an open position for a Lead Social Marketing Specialist (LSMS). The LSMS is responsible for creating and providing a full range of communication and marketing tools, resources, and guidance as part of the National Technical Assistance Network (TA Network) for Children's Mental Health (led by The Institute). The TA Network provides support (training and guidance) to states, tribes, territories, and communities seeking to improve children's mental health services. This LSMS will be a skilled writer, verbal communicator, and teacher who works well within a collaborative environment. In addition to their work on the TA Network, the LSMS, reporting to the Director of Social Marketing, will support the marketing and communication needs of additional projects within the Institute. Social marketing, not to be confused with social media, is the work of employing marketing for social good.
The Institute serves as a national training, technical assistance, evaluation, policy, systems design, and finance center that is focused on children's behavioral health. The Institute supports state and local governments and organizations to implement effective systems and practices to best meet the needs of children and youth with complex behavioral needs and their families. This support is provided through three primary centers within The Institute: National Center, Maryland Center and Texas Center. These centers work in an integrated fashion including best practices in implementation science to assist governmental and other organizational entities to achieve better outcomes for children, youth, and their families.

Develop Resources for Communities
Collaborate with TA Network leadership to develop effective, creative, and innovative marketing strategies for communities nationwide to: build partnership among local organizations, bring awareness to initiatives, and change perception regarding mental health services
Identify resources that need to be developed to support these marketing strategies and produce a series of tools to meet those needs, including written products, videos, and webinars.
Ensure the tools and resources developed are included and routinely updated on the Institute's website; track and report on web usage of these resources. Support SEO efforts to ensure traffic to these resources.
Build trainings on how to use resources developed.
Collaborate with national partners on National Children's Mental Health Awareness Day (Awareness Day).
Support communities nationwide in creating their own awareness efforts for Awareness Day.
Use the TA Network's national platform for amplifying the local efforts for Awareness Day.
Build Awareness of the TA Network
Plan and develop short- and long-term strategic communications and marketing to increase brand awareness of the TA Network.
Track and measure the success of these efforts, adjusting plans as needed to meet defined outcomes and project specifications.
Identify partner needs and communication strategies to develop marketing specifications. Actively participate in brainstorming sessions to generate ideas and develop strategies.
As appropriate, seek media coverage of the TA Network to ensure placement and distribution of messaging through media pitches and press releases. Build messaging for press-facing communication.
Effectively write and edit clear, concise copy for various audiences, including partners, media and associates.
Manage production and distribution of marketing materials, including brochures, direct mail, and advertising, for the target audience. Provide clear direction on copy, branding, and overall look and feel of materials.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Education: Bachelor's in marketing, advertising, communications, journalism, or degree related to the position is required.
Experience: Five (5) years of experience in marketing, communications, or media, public, or client relations.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to cultivate and manage influencer relationships.
Skill in news style writing and verbal communication skills, (experience packaging stories for media and web preferred).
Mastery of the digital and social media landscape.
Extensive knowledge related to social marketing.
Knowledge about best practices related to graphic design and branding
Ability to take a lead role in performing and directing various advanced, routine and maintenance procedures.
Ability to exercise the initiative and resourcefulness necessary for prioritizing multiple and ongoing projects.
Makes effective and timely decisions; and learns how to effectively use technology.
Skill in data analysis with an ability to solve problems and make sound judgements based on information. Desire to continuously seek improvement of quality for services and processes.
Ability to effectively communicate both verbal and written thoughts, ideas, and facts. Writes and presents information in a clear and concise way. Interprets and understands written information and is able to listen attentively to verbal and non-verbal cues that lead to a deeper understanding.
Ability to work cooperatively with others and demonstrate professional, ethical, respectful, and courteous behavior when interacting with others. Ability to reach compromise and consensus to influence and negotiate.
