Essential Functions: Job PurposeReporting to the General Manager, the Associate Director of Business Development and Marketing is responsible for leading innovative sales and marketing strategies in support of organizational goals. The Associate Director is accountable for driving the growth of WDET's sales and events revenue by inspiring and coaching a sales team towards achieving and exceeding annual goals. Develops strategic partnerships and collaborates on the development of promotional campaigns that build awareness and generate audience and client loyalty.Essential Functions Essential functions are the primary duties/major job responsibilities that an employee must be able to perform, with or without reasonable accommodation. The essential functions are listed in order of importance.Develop and lead a strategic, performance-based approach to exceeding departmental sales and event revenue goals. Create forecasts, establish goals for sales representatives, manage department budgets and maximize station inventory. Drive execution of all phases of sales process across platforms. Develop pricing, packaging and go-to-market approaches. Establish departmental policies, processes and workflows. Ensure compliance with Federal Communications Commission (FCC) guidelines. Recruit, manage and provide coaching to a team of sales representatives, marketing and event specialists and other support staff and vendors. Motivate sales representatives towards achieving monthly, quarterly and annual revenue goals. Mentor, evaluate and identify professional development opportunities for team. Direct the development, implementation and evaluation of all station marketing and promotional strategies to build brand awareness and growth of station, its programs and initiatives. Collaborate with leadership team to develop and execute innovative sponsorship programs, events and campaigns. Ensure a consistent brand image and voice are maintained through all WDET channels, promotions, collateral and external advertising. Cultivate new business relationships and maintain relationships with agencies. Manage strategic partnerships, trade agreements, and media sponsorships as well as relationships with departmental vendors. Oversee and evaluate market research, including focus groups and surveys. Adjust strategies to meet changing market conditions and audience needs. Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSEducation Bachelor's degree in sales, marketing or business administration or equivalent combination of education and experience.Experience Five years of media sales management or related experience in progressive management roles. Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams towards common goals and maintaining a positive work environment. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Goal driven and strategic thinker with a demonstrated track record of achievement in current/previous positions. Strong management and coaching skills. Knowledge of Detroit market including decision makers, local events and key agencies. Relationship and customer service oriented with strong attention to detail. Excellent written and oral communication skills with a demonstrated ability to craft targeted messaging to a variety of audiences across platforms. Skilled at negotiation and persuasion. Ability to establish priorities, analyze problems, develop solutions and manage against expectations. Knowledge and understanding of digital media sales, marketing, advertising and event planning. Familiarity with Customer Relationship Management (CRM) and trafficking systems such as Salesforce and Marketron, FCC guidelines, and sales forecasting and research tools. Passion for public media. Flexible and able to manage multiple objectives and tasks. Ability to thrive in a fast-moving and ambiguous environment.Local community travel up to 50%; additional cross state/country travel up to 10%. Available to work weekends and evening hours as required.
