JOB PURPOSE

Stanford University's Continuing Studies Program (CSP) is a premier adult learning program offering more than 600 courses, workshops, and seminars to approximately 16,000 students annually. The mission of Stanford Continuing Studies is to share the rich educational resources of Stanford University with adult students living in the Bay Area and increasingly beyond.

The Marketing Specialist is responsible for a wide range of marketing tasks that advance the mission of the Continuing Studies program. The ideal candidate will possess the ability to work with initiative, creativity, and independence on a variety of projects, including design and placement of print and online advertising, email marketing, website management, social media updates and brand management. S/he reports to the Marketing Manager for Continuing Studies and works closely with the Associate Dean and Director.


CORE DUTIES*:
* - Other duties may also be assigned
Creative Design [35%]:
  • Write, edit, and schedule marketing communications which adhere to communications and brand strategy for a variety of channels (web, print, email, and online).
  • Oversee all creative and strategic advertising and promotional campaigns for Continuing Studies on-campus courses as well as Public Programs that serve both the local and Stanford University communities.
  • Design ad campaigns and templates for both print and online advertising.
  • Conduct photo shoots and research photography options for all advertising and marketing needs. Build and maintain image library for all staff to utilize.
  • Manage branding for Continuing Studies program. Ensure proper usage of logo and style guide across all mediums (web and print). Order and manage promotional logo items and collateral materials, including program letterhead, banners, lobby display, and other signage as needed.

    Email Marketing [25%]:
  • Manage all email outreach strategies.
  • Plan and execute email announcement schedule; responsible for (3) email lists of over 70,000 recipients, manage editorial process for drafting and finalizing all email blasts; and execute distribution of mass email.
  • Design templates for email announcements using our email marketing software (Campaigner) for Stanford Continuing Studies program, Online Writing Certificate and Continuing Studies Public Programs.
  • Track and analyze all email metrics and produce quarterly reports with relevant statistics.

  • Website/Social Media [25%] Develop social media strategy for quarterly registration cycles. Write posts that reflect the brand of Stanford Continuing Studies and prepare imagery as needed.
  • Design and manage landing pages for marketing campaigns.
  • Serve as back-up for Marketing Manager to update Continuing Studies website using a Content Management System; create and maintain calendar for content and image updates, as needed.
    Budget Planning [15%]
  • Manage and review annual budgets for CSP marketing initiatives for on-campus courses. Analyze and report on marketing financial performance against budget. Manage payments of CSP marketing expenditures with minimal supervision from the Marketing Manager.
  • Contribute to vendor selection, arrangements, and scheduling, including vendor estimates and invoice processing.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
    Education & Experience:
    Bachelor's degree and two years of relevant experience; or a combination of education and relevant experience.
    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Graphic Design skills required.
  • Strong computer skills, including experience at an intermediate level with Adobe Creative Suite (specifically Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign), HTML, CMS, database systems, and MS Office.
  • Previous experience in product, program and/or services marketing. Specific marketing experience should include ad timelines, vendor relationships, and managing budgets.
  • Ability to work independently to meet expected deadlines and schedules.
  • Experience with managing projects.
  • Knowledge of marketing across channels including digital and print.
  • Familiar with market research and data analysis.
  • Creative problem solver.
    Excellent oral and written skills.

  • Constantly perform desk-based computer tasks.
  • Frequently stand/walk, sit, use a telephone, grasp lightly/fine manipulation, speaking.
  • Occasionally grasp forcefully, writing by hand.
  • Rarely sort/file paperwork.
