With the addition of our new Executive Director, our organization is in a place of exciting change and growth. EPIC seeks to hire a Director of Development and Marketing to lead our development, fundraising, marketing, and communications division. The Director of Development and Marketing has a unique opportunity to support the sustainability and external representation of a mission-driven organization. This person will lead the growth and evolution of the development function for EPIC while strengthening communication with key stakeholders.
The Director of Development and Marketing is a self-starter who embraces the opportunity to build strong, meaningful relationships from the ground up and execute a vision for the development and marketing needs of a growing organization. This individual thrives in a fast-paced, hands-on, and collaborative work environment. Successful candidates will demonstrate exceptional writing skills, project management and organizational skills and fluency in innovative thinking. The Director of Development and Marketing will report to the Executive Director and serve as a critical part of our senior leadership team. This position will work primarily from our downtown office located at 20 N Upper Wacker Drive, Chicago, Illinois 60606.
Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in Business Administration Public Policy or Marketing preferred
At least 6-8 years of relevant fundraising or marketing experience preferred; for-profit and campaign experience welcomed
Results-focused, highly organized self-starter who works effectively with others and independently
Ability to confidently manage a high-volume, deadline-driven workload with poise and optimism
Superior writing skills, including proven grant writing track record
Proficiency in Google and Microsoft products (e.g. Drive, Docs, Sheets, Word, and Excel), and managing donor databases (specifically Salesforce experience a plus)
Social media savvy; experience using marketing campaign tools effectively
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment
Ability to work autonomously as well as take direction as needed
Problem-solver with ability to modify best practices to fit EPIC’s resources and needs
Ability to work collaboratively and with professional maturity with major donors, board, staff, and students
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
With Executive Director, create a long-term strategic plan for EPIC fund development and donor stewardship
Execute annual fundraising goals across funding streams—individual, foundation, corporate, etc.
Identify, maintain, and execute highly effective system to process gifts, track donations, report fundraising progress to the board and leadership team, and communicate with donors
Use data effectively to understand donor behavior and plan specific strategies
Prepare Executive Director and board members for donor cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship meetings
Keep apprised of local philanthropic landscape and relevant news/changes in corporate, foundation, and individual giving communities
Write letters of inquiry, grant proposals, and funder reports; compile budget information for grant requests, based on the appropriate project costs; and respond to relevant Requests for Proposals (RFPs), Notice of Funding Opportunities (NOFOs), funder inquiries, etc.
Provide creative recommendations for how to best convert prospects into donors by utilizing EPIC’s network of board members, corporate partners, current funders, and beyond
Host one major fundraising event annually to build community of supporters and cultivate individual, corporate and foundation donor relationships
Coordinate donor meetings, site visits to the school, etc. and manage logistical elements for board meetings
Engage student ambassadors in development work, preparing them for successful interaction with donors
Manage development budgets and monitor grant program spending
Communications and Marketing:
Create and implement comprehensive communication plan for ensuring consistent messaging with key constituent groups
Develop and maintain stakeholder database
Plan, execute, publish, and distribute EPIC Academy’s Annual Report to all major stakeholders
Manage website content and social media presence, with 3-5 posts per month
Build relationships with relevant media outlets and journalists to increase number of positive stories and earned media mentions for EPIC Academy
Create customized pitch decks and other presentation materials for potential funders
Research, engage and manage potential corporate partnerships for Intensives program and student career exploration trips during Intensive weeks
Develop quarterly gift acknowledgement letters and annual on-line/direct mail appeal
Event Management (and other duties as assigned):
Manage event plan and act as primary project manager for fundraising events, including the annual Dare to Imagine Dinner in June, which raises $100K+ annually
Engage with board members, leadership, volunteers, and staff to coordinate events
Manage special project work as assigned by the Executive Director
