Overview / Responsibilities: Our client is a premier social justice and human rights museum, whose goal, using the lessons of history, is to equip visitors with the knowledge, skill, and courage to take a stand for humanity.
The museum is in need of a visionary and entrepreneurial marketing leader who can inspire new audiences, drive attendance and membership, increase earned revenue, and optimize the visitor experience. This strategic thinker will sharpen and evolve the positioning and value proposition of the museum, positioning the museum as a thought leader and a community leader. A strong writer, the VP will lead communication across all media channels and will cultivate and maintain relationships with media partners to ensure the visibility of the museum. As importantly, she/he will develop and execute plans to significantly grow income by bringing new ideas to current revenue streams (including group sales, events and facilities rentals, the museum store, and tourist programs) and envisioning and developing additional sources of revenue.
Ideal candidates will be creative but with a mania for precision, strategic and thoughtful but with a drive to get things done, able to lead and manage others but with an instinctual ability to create and move projects ahead quickly on their own.
The museum environment is enthusiastic, entrepreneurial, and collegial. Reporting to the CEO, the Vice President will be part of the senior management team and will supervise and mentor three managers who focus on communications, business development and visitor experience. She/he will collaborate extensively with the senior management team, the board, and other internal and external stakeholders.
BA/BS, MBA or graduate IMC degree a plus, and 7+ years of experience developing consistent messaging for large organizations with diversified programming, and a proven track record growing businesses and/or leading marketing initiatives that build and diversify revenue. Strong written and verbal communications skills, including proficiency with social media and digital marketing, and excellent project management and budgeting skills are mandatory.
