Provide communications counsel and tactical support to department and university leadership to help develop and manage messages on a broad array of complex issues (including but not limited to human resources, business / financial administration and operations and technology / IT) for delivery to a diverse, multi-level employee audience. Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities:
Consults and works with internal client departments to develop and implement strategic internal communications plans, in alignment with overall university marketing objectives, to assist in increasing employee satisfaction, building loyalty and creating an environment that attracts and retains strong performers.
Works independently and as a team member with others in UCM and in client areas to ensure an integrated approach to internal and external university communications.
Develops, writes and edits content for a variety of internal communications vehicles.
Assists the intranet and Internet site teams in creating and managing content.
Supports preparation of reports, materials and presentations for internal audiences as needed.
Works with UCM's creative services unit to develop and produce publications and promotional materials (e.g. newsletters, brochures, reports, Websites, etc.), as needed to further client goals.
Advises clients and UCM leadership on internal communications matters, including but not limited to effectiveness, style and delivery techniques, as well as on setting priorities for the communication of initiatives and programs.
Through strategic integrated communications, manages the overall brand and internal positioning of core administrative units, such as HR, IS and others.
Coordinates and manages distribution of internal communications in an effort to reduce communications clutter and increase impact of pertinent messages.
May supervise students and/or provide functional guidance of support staff or other employees who work on a project or assignment on a temporary or intermittent basis.
Perform related duties as assigned.
Bachelor's Degree in communications, journalism, marketing/public relations or related field. Minimum of five (5) years experience in employee communications, organizational communications, corporate public relations or journalism.
Knowledge Of: Personal computer applications: word processing, spreadsheet, database, internet and email
Skill In: Excellent written / oral communication, proficient in messaging and in writing in various formats (e.g., talking points, presentations, video scripts, newsletter articles, brochures and other collateral material).
Managing multiple projects simultaneously in a complex, decentralized environment
Excellent interpersonal skills
Ability To: Develop and lead internal communications efforts; strong facilitation and editing skills; experience in articulating policy and messages from senior management, subject matter experts and other sources for communication to internal audiences; also experience in managing social media

Measure and analyze results of communications to determine their effectiveness and make modifications to these programs as necessary
