The Athletic Marketing and Promotions Graduate Assistant will assist the marketing office in the development and execution of marketing plans, including the promotion and fan experience of the department. All duties and responsibilities will be assigned with the end goal of increasing attendance, revenue and brand awareness.
This position’s duties include, but are not limited to the following:
Establish effective on-campus marketing efforts to increase student attendance and involvement.
Assist with the marketing and game-day duties for all football games, men’s and women’s basketball games and special events (On field/court game day coordinator, game day script writing, preparing game-day promotions).
Develop and execute marketing plans for volleyball, soccer, baseball, softball and other Olympic sports.
Help with coordination, designing and editing of various athletics promotional materials (i.e. weekly & monthly emails, newsletters, campus signs, social media, and website) utilizing Adobe Photoshop and InDesign, the back-end of the website, and other programs needed.
Review, process and fulfill all charitable donation requests for the athletic department.
Recruit, hire, train and manage the athletic marketing intern staff.
Plan and organize the master marketing calendar for all marketing initiatives, including social media, press releases, e-mails, Rocket Gold Rewards app, the message board, web banners and other marketing items.
Aid in the formulation and implementation of fan involvement plans to encourage attendance, create a positive game day atmosphere and to ensure a remarkable experience for fans.
Create, plan and facilitate the game ticket promotion plans to increase attendance at home events.
Manage and arrange payment for media accounts, promotional items and other marketing expenses.
Serve as a functioning member of the department’s creative unit and directing grassroots initiatives.
Assist with the day-to-day operations of the office.
Other marketing duties as assigned by the Assistant Athletic Director for Marketing and Sales.
The Marketing and Promotions Graduate Assistant should have a bachelor’s degree in business, sales, public relations, marketing, sports management or a related field.
Prior athletic marketing and promotions experience is preferred.
Candidates should also possess: strong organizational, communication, writing, and editing skills. Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign)is preferred.
Experience with forms of new media including, but not limited to, website, social media, video and mobile.
Demonstrate the ability to work on projects individually, as well as within a team, be able to handle multiple tasks at one time, work in a fast paced environment, problem solve, and meet short deadlines. The candidate must display the highest of ethical standards and commitment to the overall success of Toledo Athletics.
The candidate is expected to act within the parameters of institutional control and is responsible for conducting all activities in compliance with NCAA, Mid-American Conference and University of Toledo rules and regulations.
All applicants must meet the admission requirements for The University of Toledo Graduate School. Employment is contingent upon admission and enrollment in the graduate program. As a condition for retention, the GA must remain in good academic standing within the graduate program. This is a two-year graduate assistantship starting May 2017 and concluding in the spring of 2019. The University of Toledo will provide tuition for the fall and spring semester (at the in-state tuition rates) and a monthly stipend of $1,000 per month.
