In May 1879, 18 pharmacists met in the backroom of a Dallas drug store and formed the Texas State Pharmaceutical Association (TPA). Their goal was simple: to improve the quality of drugs and pharmaceutical services in Texas. TPA has been the leading advocate for all pharmacists and the pharmacy profession in Texas ever since. TPA serves members practicing in all areas of pharmacy, including community, hospitals, long-term care facilities, education, manufacturing and distribution. Marketing and Communications Specialist
POSITION SUMMARY: A creative and innovative professional with proven experience in developing and implementing member-focused communications and marketing to increase the visibility of the organization; and with the ability to manage the primary responsibility for digital and print communications. • Drives marketing strategy and required resources • Raises awareness and perceived value of the association and its programs • Increases the Association’s visibility among the profession, governmental decision makers and the general public.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Marketing: • Manage the marketing strategies for the Association and entities. o Develop, implement and manage short- and long-term strategies and expectations. o Coordinate the development and implementation of marketing materials with a measurable action. o Test, analyze and optimize performance of campaigns and their elements. • Develop and implement outreach initiatives for news media and public relations purposes.
Publications: • Manage, produce and distribute all digital and print communications, marketing and collateral materials. • As requested, attend and develop articles and/or reports for publications or other purposes to include: o Key Association events; o Public policy and government meetings; and o Other meetings and/or activities regarding pharmacy issues.
Digital: • Manage content of the digital platform, and add features that drive traffic and readership. o Research, propose and develop new features. o Monitor and report usage and related statistics. o Utilize social media for marketing and member engagement. • Develop and manage surveys, blogs, online communities, social media, streaming video, podcasts and related multimedia resources.
Administrative: • Pursue advertising sales and corporate relationships. • Manage production schedules, vendor relations, and billing for completed jobs. • Prepare and manage departmental budget.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES Skills and Abilities: • Able to think creatively and strategically with vision. • Persuasive communication skills. • Data-driven marketing and demonstrated analytic ability with awareness of audience. Make decisions based on response with versatility to reach goals. • Excellent writing, editing and proofreading skills. • Ability to multi-task while paying attention to detail. • Strong leadership skills and judgment. Able to work well independently. • Able to motivate and influence others. • Solid presentation, oral communications and interpersonal skills.
Education and Experience: • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, Marketing or related field. • Ability to manage a broad-based communication program encompassing print and electronic publications, event and services marketing and public and media relations. • Experience in writing for electronic communications, maintaining website content & developing/implementing new site & e-news features. • 2+ years of experience in managing broad-based communications and marketing programs. • 2+ years of experience in maintaining and updating website content.
Computer Skills: • Experience in working with browser-based editing programs and in preparing/uploading various types of documents and graphic files. • Demonstrable understanding of web site organization, maintenance, navigation and capabilities. • Computer literate in MS Office and Windows platform graphic programs.
