Marketing Platform Development + Posting . At the direction of the Business Manager and Dietrich College's PR Team, you will continue to develop each of our marketing platforms (Web, Social Media, Digital Mailings, Print Materials, etc.), implementing a unique posting strategy for each. Additionally, you will execute the posting for each platform.
Content Generation. You will be expected to write short-form articles about various news, events, and achievements inside the English Department. As part of your role you may also oversee and provide editorial guidance to a graduate student who will assist you with some of the writing responsibilities.
Website Maintenance and Updates . You will run the Department's website, handling or delegating maintenance, and being the first point of content for website organization, design, copy, and updates.
Brand Development . Your mission is to work with the Business Manager and Dietrich College's PR Team to help develop the brand of the Department of English so that our identity is clear, our story is told, and audiences are engaged. All of your work in this area must fall in line with the university and college brand guidelines and you should show willingness to learn AP style as well as CMU's writing style. This will be the least defined part of your role, but the most important. We are looking for a creative thinker, who will do what it takes to achieve growth for the Department.
Event Design and Strategic Planning. You will be aware of 100% of the events happening in the Department English, organize the scheduling of those events, and provide high-level planning for our signature public events. You will have a partner in our Office and Special Projects Manager who will execute all of the operational logistics for events.
Metrics + Assessment . A key part of your role will be to assess our Marketing and Communications against clear metrics to identify what is making a difference and what is not - and then adjusting our approaches accordingly, in collaboration with Dietrich College.
Graphic Design . Graphic design skills are preferred, but are not a requirement. You will be responsible for defining the visual look and feel of the Department's brand - either by creating graphics yourself or by working with a designer. All designs must work within the College's brand guidelines.
Promotion . You will be in charge of the promotion of all of our Department's events, relative to their scope.
Budget Management. You will have a marketing, advertising, and promotional budget assigned to you and you will be expected to manage these funds with care, in partnership with the Department's business manager.
Advertising . You will be responsible for placing ads in various publications, in partnership with relevant program Directors, Staff, the Department Head
Internal Communication + Assisting the Head. You will be responsible for some internal communication to the Department and will be expected to assist the Department Head in drafting key communications materials.
Technology - G-Suite, and Microsoft Office: Strong use of G-Suite and Microsoft Office are a requirement for this position.
Technology - Adobe Adobe Suite skills are preferred but are not a requirement.
Video / Photo. Video and photo skills are preferred but are not a requirement. Preference will be given to candidates who can shoot and edit media. Necessary equipment will be provided to you by the Department.
Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, PR, Humanities, or equivalent required.
3-5 years experience in, Marketing, Communications, PR, or related field required.
Excellent verbal and written communication. Familiarity with academic writing as well as AP style a big plus.
Project management know-how and expertise.
Knowledge of marketing strategies for audience growth and for digital audience engagement.
