The Director of Marketing Intelligence leads and manages a team that is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing a comprehensive analysis and research strategy for RIT’s Division of Marketing and Communications. This person will support the entire marketing and communications team and its clients/partners in developing data-driven solutions and maximizing the ROI for marketing tactics, vehicles, and channels. He/she will manage data collection, analysis, and reporting, as well as the development, assessment, and interpretation of information required for making critical decisions. Working within the Marketing and Branding unit, the Director of Marketing Intelligence will develop a deep understanding of the University’s colleges, programs, divisions and initiatives, and will recommend the appropriate analysis and research tools required to meet the data needs of the team. This person will work with the other departments within the Division of Marketing and Communications to design and evaluate communication strategies on an ongoing basis. He/she will lead the University’s database management efforts, including oversight and evaluation of existing CRM and database tools, as well as identify, recommend, and implement enterprise solutions. This position will excel in data-driven segmentation strategies, and outline and refine best practices for key target groups. He/she will be instrumental in understanding, distilling, and disseminating web analytics in a way that is meaningful and action-oriented. The Director of Marketing Intelligence reports to the AVP of Marketing and Branding within the Division of Marketing and Communications.
Key responsibilities include:
Effectively manage and supervise the team, communicating vision and parameters, providing opportunities for personal and professional growth through regular performance reviews, guidance, and encouraging training while presenting new techniques, and recruiting and hiring new staff members as required.
Provide direction and lead ongoing development of database segmentation, testing, and analysis; direct use of database to identify and develop audience segments across programs/initiatives; implement QA procedures to ensure data integrity; identify opportunities and implement improvements to existing CRM model.
Help develop the annual budget, and maintain spending within budget while achieving overall and client-specific goals.
Lead and manage RIT’s Marketing Intelligence; develop strategies aimed at supporting data-driven marketing planning and execution.
Develop and manage a comprehensive plan for ongoing analysis and research for the entire lifecycle, from the creation of marketing plans to the resulting tactics deployed.
Establish appropriate key performance indicators (KPIs) and success metrics for each program/initiative, along with the ability to track and analyze against each KPI.
Identify the appropriate quantitative and qualitative data required for key decision-making, including primary and secondary research and third-party data.
Select and employ best-in-class methodologies for data collection and analysis, evaluating and implementing a variety of analysis and research tools to meet the needs of our diverse client base.
Provide consistent and comprehensive reporting and analysis for each research stream; identify and report on areas of opportunity and improvement and provide data-driven recommendations to brand management and marketing communications teams.
Use sophisticated data gathering and visualization techniques to educate and direct campus partners on strategies grounded in consumer insights.
Develop trend reports and deploy predictive analytics to forecast and plan for the constantly changing marketing landscape.
RIT’s Marketing and Communications Division (M&C) is the provider of integrated marketing and communications assets for the university. The University Marketing and Branding Team within M&C provides research, analysis, and strategic marketing and branding oversight for the university as a whole as well as guidance to various entities within RIT.
Required Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience: Business, Statistics, Marketing, or related field Candidates must have 5-8 years of progressive experience in related positions and in a data-driven, complex matrix organization, ideally with experience in higher education.
Candidates will possess the analytical ability to assess the environment and the competition, anticipate future business needs, and develop creative ideas regarding possible responses
Experience with qualitative and quantitative research development, conducting/fielding research studies (online and in person) and final research analysis
Proficient and up-to-date with constantly evolving web analytics methodologies, including, but not limited to: Google Analytics (including Google Tag Manager), SEO/SEM tools, etc.
Marketing, strategic planning, organizational development, and analytical/problem-solving skills are required
Demonstrated leadership and team management skills
Expertise in marketing reporting, data management, and analysis to derive meaningful insights
Demonstrated ability to effectively network and build relationships with various internal and external constituencies is essential
Candidates must have excellent interpersonal skills, be able to take initiative, and be resourceful in an environment of constrained resources
Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential
Ability to exercise good judgment independently while maintaining composure in a fast-paced, service oriented environment
Proficiency in MS Office applications and database applications, including CRM databases, database marketing, experience in database languages/reporting, data visualization programs, and survey design platforms (for example, Qualtrics) a plus

Experience in departmental management is preferred.
Experience in higher education preferred
MBA, MS Statistics or Masters in Communication Technology preferred
