POSITION DESCRIPTION: This position will work with the Executive Director to create the organization's strategic, long-term development plan; will be responsible for implementing and administering the plan, including fundraising events. Researching, writing and managing all corporate and foundation grants to financially support the organization's programs and services will be essential. Additionally, will assist with building and managing the organization's brand, developing all e-communication and other related aspects of marketing communications, in order to raise awareness of Beacon Place and its programs.
Works closely with Executive Director to develop and implement annual development plan, with targeted goals, objectives, methods, quantifiable outcomes and timelines which will achieve budgeted goals and increase diversified and sustainable revenue streams. Regular contact with the Treasurer and other members of the Board of Directors will be required.
Research and identify potential new corporate, foundation and other grant sources. Write letters of intent weekly and foster relationships with potential corporate and foundation partners.
Develop and write highly competitive proposals/grants for new and renewable corporate and foundation grants. Work with other team members to identify potential grants, target grant projects and complete grant applications in a timely fashion. Develop, track and report key measures of progress in all areas of grant activity. Schedule all site visits with Executive Director and others as needed.
Plan, direct, promote, and execute at least three annual fundraising or special events including tracking, reporting, monitoring and evaluating event and campaign effectiveness.
Develop a Planned Giving program by working with financial institutions and community groups to provide information to individuals concerning the benefits and process for establishing a planned gift (i.e. wills, trust and bequests.)
Evaluates the effectiveness of fundraising and development programs and implements innovative strategies for continually improving impact, effectiveness, and quality of these activities.
Establishes and implements guidelines for donor stewardship and recognition; creates recognition letters for donors that effectively and enthusiastically convey the organization’s appreciation. Coordinates volunteer service events for corporate partners to increase engagement.
Oversee staff responsible for Salesforce donor data entry and monthly reporting or event summaries as needed. Ensure accuracy of monthly donor data and financial records.
Develop and execute a comprehensive marketing plan that includes events, media relations, press releases, social networking, Annual Report, website, newsletters, and branding.
Produce monthly/periodic newsletter – includes working with leadership team to identify and solicit content, drafting all content and layout, submitting to Executive Director for final editorial review, and distribution through Constant Contact. Includes building distribution lists and periodic review of recipients.
Ongoing responsibility for oversight and growth of website and social media presence including creating engaging connections for donors, volunteers and supporters.
Manage the production and distribution of quality marketing materials that support development and marketing goals.
Organize and implement a strategy for easy access of all marketing collateral including photos, brochures, videos, slideshows, etc. for a variety of staff and board users.
Education/Minimum Experience: Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 5 years experience in development and marketing for a non-profit organization with a proven track record of cultivating new funding sources and meeting or exceeding fundraising goals.

Development/Fundraising: Proven success in the development and implementation of individual, foundation and corporate giving strategies, as well as grant writing and management of fundraising events.
Project Leadership: Experience in planning, leading, and managing development projects, including coordinating with peers to achieve desired outcomes and tracking/reporting on progress to Executive Director and the Board.
Communication: Skilled in creating powerful, compelling written and oral communications for all grants and fundraising events. Ability to convey complex ideas through brief, simple materials. Experience and credibility when presenting materials to external audiences.
Organization/Results Orientation: Ability to be highly organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to multi-task and meet deadlines in face-paced environment.
Collaboration: Effective at working with others to reach common goals and objectives.
Relationship Building: Skilled at establishing and cultivating strong relationships with current donors, potential donors, clients and other staff members.
Technology/Database/Reporting: Working mastery of the Microsoft Suite and working knowledge of Salesforce or other CRM data base applications and reporting is required. Basic knowledge of Constant Contact, web support, photography, and social media/on-line giving platforms, as well as Adobe, Photoshop and other graphic support tools will be desirable.
This position will be required to work 30 hours per week. Some weekend and evening hours will be required for special events/projects, etc.
The salary for this position will be commensurate with experience.
This position will be located in our Waukegan facility and candidates must have access to transportation.
Additional Salary Information: 30 hours per week for 50 weeks (agency closed for 2 weeks in December)
