Arlington County has a dynamic and creative professional opportunity for a Marketing Manager within the Arlington Convention and Visitors Service (ACVS). This employee will lead the development and promotion of Arlington's tourism marketing initiatives for domestic and international Meetings, Conventions, Leisure Travel and Industry audiences. This employee will also work as part of a highly collaborative team that measures success through increased Arlington hotel occupancy and visitor spending, resulting in related guest-tax revenues that benefit the residents and businesses of Arlington County. ACVS is the official destination marketing organization for Arlington, and is a division within Arlington Economic Development (AED). ACVS markets Arlington as a premier destination for leisure travel, business travel, meetings, conventions and groups, and as the best place to stay, shop, dine and be entertained when visiting the Washington, D.C., area. Arlington has been the #1 County in Virginia for tourism economic impact since 2009, with more than 40 hotels, 11,000 lodging rooms, and $3.1 billion in visitor spending in 2016. Specific duties include:
Coordinating partner participation, creative/production processes and performance tracking/analysis for print, online (including Search Engine Marketing SEM and Search Engine Optimization SEO), video and social-media marketing initiatives;
Managing StayArlington website and online marketing based on overarching marketing strategy;
Guiding social media presence and continually working with developers to incorporate destination marketing best practices;
Assessing tourism advertising/promotion vehicles and making annual planning/budget recommendations based on market research and past performance.
Leading collaboration with Content Manager, Destination Sales Manager and Public Relations Manager to ensure initiatives are integrated with ACVS marketing, advertising and promotion activities.
Assisting with annual ACVS budget development, grant writing, and special events.
Managing end-to-end purchasing process; and
Representing ACVS as needed on intra-County projects and with regional/state/national tourism organizations.
The ideal candidate will be a highly motivated, organized self-starter with strong data analysis/reporting experience, and excellent writing, public speaking and interpersonal skills.
Minimum: Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, journalism, tourism or related field, plus extensive marketing management experience in the travel industry, ideally at a Destination Marketing Organization, convention & visitors bureau, travel management company, hotel company, tour operator, travel technology firm or related service provider. Substitution: Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis. A Master's degree in any of the fields mentioned above or a closely related field may be substituted for up to one year of experience. Preference will be given to candidates with one or more of the following:
Experience managing and optimizing online and print advertising and promotion, SEO/SEM, and social media strategy, and assessing and reporting on their effectiveness;
Experience using Customer Relationship Management (CRM) applications (such as Salesforce Sales Cloud) and/or e-marketing solutions (such as Salesforce Marketing Cloud);
Ability to manage projects involving multiple partners and stakeholders (e.g., technical vendors, creative firms, hospitality partners, event coordinators); and/or
Master's Degree in any of the fields mentioned above.
