OVERVIEW The University of Minnesota Arboretum delights and inspires hundreds of thousands of visitors each year. We are looking for an experienced marketing professional who wants to make a profoundly positive difference in our mission to welcome, inform and inspire more new visitors and existing friends. The Marketing Programs Manager will play a critical role assuring the delivery of cross functional promotional literature system, marketing programs, projects and collateral for the Arboretum. Reporting to the Director of Commercial Operations and Guest Services, the manager is part of the Commercial Operations and Guest Services organization. Deliverables include:
• Work with internal cross Arboretum clients on marketing project and production needs, deliver detailed project plans to track progress and assess results • Benchmark, assess existing Arboretum promotional literature system. Identify and seek approval for quality and cost improvements, implement, manage and measure system performance • Benchmark, assess existing Arboretum promotional banner and signage system. Identify and seek approval for quality and cost improvements, implement, manage and measure system performance • Ensure that all marketing projects are delivered on-time, within scope and within budget • Ensure resource availability and allocation for all projects • Coordinate and collaborate with Digital Programs and Communications/PR teams as appropriate • Manage, obtain change approvals from project owners and communicate changes in project scope, schedule and costs • Measure project performance using appropriate systems, tools and techniques • Manage and maintain excellent relationships with the client and all stakeholders • Establish and maintain relationships with third parties/vendors • Create and maintain comprehensive project documentation • Provide leadership to marketing project specialists, coordinate assignments, internal resources and third parties/vendors for the flawless execution of projects • Assess existing vendor creative and print/production relationships, assess opportunity to improve quality and production costs with current and potential new vendors • Work cross functionally with Arboretum leadership, the University of Minnesota and third party vendors to update, modernize, train and maintain consistency in application of a new Arboretum visual identity and style guide. • Manage staff of two marketing project specialists and seasonal part time support
75% Arboretum marketing program and project management Work cross functionally with Arboretum Commercial Office, Development, Education, Research and Operations in support of marketing programs and projects. Using a consultative approach, continually connect with internal partners/customers to identify their needs, plan and propose solutions and improvements to best meet the needs. Work with internal clients to establish plans, update on progress, implement on-time and jointly assess results. In partnership with Promotions and Communications teams, assess, improve and manage the Arboretum's promotional literature, sign and banner system. Meet and exceed satisfaction and revenue targets.
15% Special Project Support Work with cross functional, internal clients in Business Operations, Development, Education and Garden Operations to plan and support special projects as assigned by Commercial Office Director. Work cross-functionally with Arboretum staff to assure special project success. Meet and exceed project client/partner satisfaction and revenue targets.
10% Team Management, Cross Organization Training and Support Provide leadership to at least one marketing specialist. Deliver marketing project training and support to Arboretum leadership and staff. Participate in cross-functional leadership opportunities including diversity, team building and leadership development.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: • This is a full time position located at the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum in Chaska, MN. • This position also includes the option to participate in the Uof MN benefits package; medical, dental, life, STD/LTD, LTC insurance plans and flexible spending accounts] • Final compensation based on skill, anticipated salary range
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS • Bachelor's Degree in marketing or related field plus two (2) years of professional experience, or a combination of related education and relevant professional experience totaling six (6) years • Exceptional project management: planning, collaboration, documentation, implementation and assessment experience is a must • Strong sales/promotional literature creative, print, production experience • Excellent project consulting skills • Exceptional understanding of budgets, fiscal planning and accountability • Successful completion of a background check
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: • Advanced degree and/or certifications in relevant field including, but not limited to: marketing, project management • Non-profit, public venue marketing project and management experience, sales literature, event promotion, invitation systems and design • Consultative experience and success in a complex multi-department, cross functional environment • Experience and/or familiarity with public gardens, museums, or like organizations • Passion and appreciation for nature, art, natural preservation/conservation, education, philanthropy and service • Relationships and/or experience working with local print and production vendors, creative agencies, writers and graphic designers • Familiar with the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum gardens, programs and offerings
• Proven complex, cross functional project management skills • Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills • Team partnership skills, passion for bringing people together, organizing and supporting winning teams • People person, patient, loves to collaborate, influence, inspire and delight • Very strong organizational skills
